I've always interpreted this as someone doing S&M to get over the trauma of being molested. Being raped took their volition away, and this way they get it back.
Just my two cents. |

It's creepy how distressed Horace Andy sounds.
I feel like there's a slight Jekyll and Hyde feel to this song. Why is he so obsessed with this man next door? |

Perfect song to end such a bleak album on.
It's about how someone who feels they're defective, but still hopes the person they loved might come back to them.
They don't feel entitled to it or anything but just have this gentle hopefulness about them. They know even if they're alone again, this person has changed everything for them... they can survive now, knowing they were truly loved.
Lovely. |

| The Dresden Dolls – Delilah Lyrics

I think Delilah and Amanda are the same person, or two aspects of the same personality. I can just see this girl sitting in a bar all alone, slamming her fist down and debating whether to break up with this guy. But he's a scum! But they're in love!
That's the only way the "schizo" thing makes sense to me. The girl is so trapped by this relationship, she's her own best friend and her worst enemy. |

Great song. It's about an attitude where you want to be entertained for fast, dirty, and cheap, so you take medication. It could be drugs, tv, food, or anything. |

I love the ending....
Where it goes "you don't own what none can buy." It's almost soulful, really changes the song's dynamic.
Of course he has to go and ruin it with that smarmy "neither do I" |
