| John Mayer – I Don't Trust Myself (With Loving You) Lyrics | 16 years ago |

the way i see it, the song is really sending quite a contradictory message throughout, except for this interlude which you've corrected. the title being 'i don't trust myself' suggests as i feel the lyrics (for the most part) that it's really john himself who has the problem in the relationship. so he is the one dragging the girl along: 'if my past is any sign of your future you should be warned before i let you inside' he's warning her he's dangerous. 'i will beg my way into your garden i will break my way out when it rains' he's pulling himself into this relationship which he doesn't think will work in the first place, and he knows he will ultimately fall apart when it "rains," so to speak. back to the title, he doens't trust himself, not that he doesn't trust her, which is why i find this "girl i see through your love" part so contradictory. even if it was as it's put incorrectly, that could be seen as the side of the girl being depicted. ultimately i guess this song is about a fear of john's to be in a committed relationship originating in a fear that it would only end or that he would only ruin it. but all these views seem to capture the song well. |
