I got the lazy idea from the line, "Well okay you fell asleep today/ What's funny to me though is you did that yesterday." That to me does suggest that he's saying she doesn't do much and that while she's busy doing nothing he'll be doing "all those things I don't need to do." I don't think he's really trying to start anything, but the song does come across as somewhat spiteful. I'm not saying it's a dark and mean attitude he carries around all the time, but a moment of expression and thought that occurred to him enough to write a song about it. Maybe now it's expelled! |

| Perfume is the actual lyric according to the Blunderbuss CD pamphlet. That line is intriguing to me...assuming that he doesn't actually drink perfume (let's hope) I wonder what kind of metaphor this could be. Any thoughts? | |

Thanks for the link. I just read a passing line somewhere on the internet about his brother dying and never really learned much about it...not that it's any of my business though. Does seem quite literal, still a heartbreaking line every time I hear it. |

Ouch. I didn't even think about that dead brother line being about Jack...that's some rough introspection on his part! I don't think the song really gives any clear hints on who those could be about, but I agree that it does seem to be a two person dialogue going on in the song. |

I think it most def. is about Meg and the whole White Stripes era. "Let the stripes unfurl," is about as unsubtle as he's gotten IMO! The whole song makes ya wonder if it's about her, but I think that lyric pretty much seals the deal! It's rather a cutting song really...with him saying yeah you'll be around, but so will I and way more than you. He pretty much also says that she's lazy and isn't really doing much while he's going around achieving all that he is. It's a cold song, but also motivational...you know you like to just keep proving yourself when you've had a falling apart with someone. |

I am so addicted to this song! It's just kinda different quirky compared to the other songs on that album! Anyways..does anyone else think maybe it's about the music biz?? I kept getting that feeling ever since I heard it. With all the lines about learning manners and such which refer to how him and The Killers had to learn how to function in the music industry. And the whole thing about swallowing it and being given too much on your plate could refer to when success hit them it was probably a bit overwhelming. And some of the other stuff (most notably the last stanza or whatever you call it in music haha) kinda comes off to me as stuff they've been told by people in the music biz giving them advice and forcing them along to continue to be successful. Or possibly it's just about the undertaking of him going out on in his own and making a solo record and the pressure that came with that. I don't know, that is just my interpretation! But you guys have some really great ideas too! |

| Well since 30 had their own youtube channel now and they posted all the lyrics up I looked at this one and "stole it from you," is actually "I've stolen from you." Which makes a little more sense. He's saying he took something away from someone else, but I'm still a little iffy on it. | |

| The guys just made an offical youtube channel and they put the lyrics up for that part as, "I've abandoned control." Just to clear that up hah | |

I immediately thought of that book to right when I first heard him sing that line. My friend read that book a couple years ago and so I knew it was about drugs and going into rehab...but I didn't really think of this book as influencing the song. But I could be wrong! But branching off from that and just talking about demons and troubles in general (which are themes of the album) I would say your theory makes sense and I like it! The idea of all these toxic things one does in life taking away years in your life, metaphorically or I guess physically sometimes too. Though looking back on the line having these problems take life from him (or whoever) doesn't make sense b/c he/she says "I stole it from you" rather than "They stole it from me" or something...unless he's talking from the demons point of view and in that case would make sense. |

I see you've replied a lot on there new songs! Thanks for that you have great explanations! I've been listening to this song a lot and really like it, and just curious what is your interpretation of that "a million little pieces, I stole it from you." He says this twice and the second time emphasizes it so what do you think that means? It just kinda stood out to me. |
