Are you sure it wasn't "Fall Down and Never Get Back Up Again" in which they expanded on this poem? Because that song seems more heavily inspired by this poem than "New Storms for Older Lovers". Also, if it wasn't obvious, if anyone does not know the source of these lyrics but likes these lyrics, look up Edgar Allan Poe (I hope you heard of him) and his works. |

This song is from the EP "Pigeonholed" which is available to download for FREE here: http://www.pigeonholedep.tk/ That is also where I pulled the lyrics from. Good band. Good song. Breaking the song down: "Everywhere I look There are some opinions I can't stand And don't we all feel that way sometimes But one sticks out to me That we must fulfill our greed Ruin artistic integrity for the sake of short-term marketability" -This is about how bands sell out for money nowadays to be successful. "I'll be driving home for the holidays Listen to the radio and all the stupid shit that gets played" -The stuff on the radio is shit, basically. "We don�t stand a chance" -They are saying how they, Lipona, don't stand a chance in society if the media will only play shit on the radio. Also, perhaps this is saying they don't stand a chance because they won't sell out. "It must connect to the emotions of the audience We cannot have them thinking on their own If we keep them focused on relationships and their high school crush We've done our part, let's go home" -This is talking about what the media is doing to us: preventing us to think for ourselves by constantly playing songs without any relevant message. They play music that keeps us focused on our relationships, but not the problems in our society. "What a standard, a restricting formula That never allows my voice to get heard You can go and sing those songs all day long And realize that there's no substance to their words" -This is speaking more on how the media keeps us from thinking about the problems in our society ("my voice to be heard" is possibly referring to Lipona as a band). The songs on the radio are catchy, but they don't have any substance. "I'll be sitting at home for the holidays Watch the daily countdown shows and all the stupid shit that gets played We don�t stand a chance " -Again, saying how the stuff the media puts out is shit and how Lipona doesn't have a chance at making it big in our society if the media is like this. |
