I was just looking at that same line and thinking that it does seem a bit weird. But as I stared at it for a while this thought hit me, so I'll try to articulate. Being confused could be considered a type of mental illness, as minor as it actually is. So, because all humans are under the condition of "schizophrenia", or more accurately "spiritual schizophrenia", then we all need God to correct that in our lives. I think he is emphasizing a bit on working for salvation, where some people think that "as long as I'm only 'confused' and not 'schizophrenic', then God will forgive me and I can be with him", and so "that's what you thought, well didn't you?" You thought that as long as you weren't messed up, God would accept you, but the reality is that you ARE screwed up (Schizophrenic), BUT God accepts and forgives you anyway! |
