If Tuomas is the escapist in this song then he would also be the nightingale. And to me the verse "A nightingale in a golden cage That's me locked inside reality's maze" would mean that Tuomas would like to escape the reality of things but is forced other wise. And since Nightwish uses fairytales and other stories often, the song makes me think of the story "The Nightingale and the Rose." Which is about the nightingale sacrificing it's own life for love. |

The verse "Sea without a shore For the banished one unheard" makes me think that the old man has been banished from his home. And he has been on this island so long that everyone has forgotten him. Maybe even the ones who 'banished' him have already passed on, along with anyone else who knew him, so he is completely forgotten. As for the verses "The albatross is flying Making him daydream The time before he became One of the world`s unseen Princess in the tower Children in the fields Life gave him it all: An island of the universe" could be referring to the life he had before being placed on this island. |

| I know that this is a tribute to Disney but the verse "The Phoenix of White Agony Creek" makes me think of the Grimm Brother's Fairytale The Juniper Tree. And then that story leads me to think about the move James and the Giant Peach. Though I don't know if that story has anything to do with that movie, or if there is any phoenix represented in the movie itself. I suppose the phoenix could be representing rebirth and any Disney movies that go along with that could go along with that verse. I still can't figure out what "The Sailor an idol for the six-year-old in me" verse represents, the closets I can figure is Treasure Planet but that came out after the song had been written. | |
