| Seriously a great song. The opening track on their debut album. Great lyrics and excellent guitar work throughout. Straight forward lyrics....don't really have to search for a meaning in this one. I can add to sgninaemgnos comment that when the band first started touring outside of Florida, lead guitarist/vocalist/songwriter Hughie Thomasson was only about 24 and they were on the bus heading to another town late at night and he confessed to Henry Paul (original member and also founder of BlackHawk) that he wanted to go home and Henry said that he looked like he was about to cry...so his friend and bandmate comforted him and let him know everything was gonna be alright, etc and I'm pretty sure that's when Hughie and drummer Monte Yoho wrote this tune. | |

| What the hell man? Why would you even post something about a subject you clearly know NOTHING about? That's disrespectful. It makes it worse in this case that you're a moron because the Outlaws were one of the best bands of their time and Hughie Thomasson was without a doubt one of the best guitarists to ever touch the instrument, not to mention that two of the original members of this band did take their lives. RIP Billy Jones, Frank O'Keefe & Hughie Thomasson. High Tides Forever | |

| Sorry to burst your bubble but that's completely incorrect. The line "before the burst of tambourines takes you there" is in reference to Jimi's Band of Gypsys as is "castles of stone soul and glory"-Castles Made of Sand/Spanish Castle Magic. This song is a tribute to fallen rock icons and personal hero's of the writer - Hughie Thomasson. i.e. - Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Buddy Holly. | |

| I agree with ya' on this one. The Outlaws were definitely the most original of the Southern Rock bands that came out of the 70's. Not only a great song but a great album as well. Holiday, Man of the Hour, Hearin' my heart talkin', Gunsmoke. Amazing stuff from the Florida Guitar Army. The lyrics to this song are superb; great story provided by H.T. and the guitar harmonies are brilliant. If you listen to the live version on Bring it Back Alive, towards the end of the song where he repeats the first verse he says: Gypsys danced around the camp fire, shook their tambourines - They were waiting for the ghost of an Outlaw Jesse was her name.....hmmm....which Jesse was he thinking of at the time? | |
| Creedence Clearwater Revival – Lookin' Out My Back Door Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| This song is not actually about drugs, though John Fogerty may have been stoned when he wrote it...it was the sixties guys. The song is an expression of the overwhelming joy he felt about 'getting out' of Vietnam. He didn't have to go fight and it was somehow a close call (don't remember the exact reasons)so when he found out he was safe he was so fn happy "Lookin out my back door" is what came out. | |
