Bon Jovi – Dry County Lyrics 7 years ago
I think this is about society and the way the world has gone, particularly in the west. In the song, a depressed foreigner who's fallen on hard times hears about a place where the grass is greener. So he comes to America with his family for a 'better life', where miracles happen (Across the border they turn water into wine), the streets are paved with gold, and the oil wells run deep. But he also hears a rumor that this all a lie (the devil's blood).

He comes anyway, thinking he's going to live the American dream, only to find it really is an enslaved society. They've used up all the money (government debt), the oil wells are all dried up (abused the earth, and now it's falling apart) and leaving his family to find work leads to a dead end.

He looks to the western church for help, but they're drinking the same wine, the devil's blood. They too are in the 'system' and slaves to money, ignoring the fact that the country is in billions of dollars of debt and doesn't really have any money at all. So he realizes living in this country night after night after night, it would better to be shot or stabbed.

This song comes from the Keep the Faith album. In the song of the same title, Jon says...

Walking in the footsteps
Of society's lies
I don't like what I see no more
Sometimes I wish that I was blind
Sometimes I wait forever
To stand out in the rain
So no one sees me cryin'
Trying to wash away the pain

In Dry County, he's showing the end result of what society's lies looks like. Nobody cries here. It's been dry for so long nobody cares anymore. There is no more hope. The promise has run dry.

Anyway, that's my theory.

Hillsong UNITED – Lead Me To The Cross Lyrics 11 years ago
A beutiful song with a profound message.

On two occasions where is says, 'I count it all as lost' it should read, 'I count it all as loss'
Also, 'Tempted and trialed' should read, 'Tempeted and tried'

Blessings

30 Seconds to Mars – Closer To The Edge Lyrics 15 years ago
The author saw something and he lost himself in it. It was only for a moment but he got a glimpse of truth and it changed everything. He dare not mention it cos' it may come across religious or something. But he can't shake it so he's gonna live on the edge and share it with others. He's not sorry about it either and won't ever regret telling people about it because it is so real to him and you just gotta see it he thinks.

That sums up the first verse and chorus. The second verse goes into more detail sheds light on this world but also another world opposite to this one.

If this isn't Christian lyrics I don't know what it is.

A very good point. The world is wrong, there really is Grace.

Metallica – The End Of The Line Lyrics 16 years ago
This album is a masterpiece and the lyrics to this particular song is amazing. I'm sure the rest are too but this one is standing out for me atm. Assuming my interpretation is correct of course. Anyway here goes...

This song is about self-centeredness, or egocentrism and where it leads. We live in a postmodern society and Hetfield is exposing it's outcome in this track. We've become intoxicated in trying to please the self and getting the most out of life, 'for me'. It's all about what I want and I'll do what I can to get it. But it's never enough. I get what I want but then I want more. I try a drug, awesome, now gotta try a heavier one. End of the line.

We get stuck on something we think is for us and is 'mine'. Be it drugs, sex, Xbox, shopping, shoes, tools, gadgets etc. We get things we think make us, us. Keep going down that path see where it leads. What's at the end of the line? Nothing. Zip. Zippo. It's all worth squat.

So as a whole I think the song is saying get over yourself, stop getting sucked into this disease we call narcissism and think outside your own little world. Break free from the chains of self-centeredness, as it leads to nowhere. There is more to life than self and needs and wants.

It pushes me to think a little deeper about life and what its all about. Anyway read over the lyrics again with this in mind and tell me what you think.

Cheers
Jad

Dream Theater – The Silent Man Lyrics 16 years ago
I think it might be about wisdom. Wisdom is personified it appears in the lyrics. "When there is reason, tonight he's awake".

"Sin without deceivers, a god with no believers" is perhaps an understanding of absolute truth and absolute morality. The idea that you can have a god with no believers. No one believing there is no god doesn't make it true. In like manner to sin without a deceiver kinda point to a real objective right and wrong, or evil, beyond what we humans determine is right and wrong.
