Bon Iver – Blood Bank Lyrics 15 years ago
I'm going to preface this by saying that I am in love with Justin Vernon.
With that being said, I will never understand his beautiful mind.

Personally, I see it in a slightly different light. To me, it definitely has to do with past and present. I think the blood bank refers to the fact that we have all been through a lot. We've all had our share of bad experiences/relationships. We've all bled.
I think he's saying, I know you've been through a lot, but hey, I have too. We can look at our pasts and know our pasts but not be weighed down by them.
"Ain't this just like the present to be showing up like this." Even when we want to dwell on the past, the present finds a way of sneaking up on us. There is hope that we can be broken and yet still have love in our future.

Jon Foreman – I Am Still Running Lyrics 16 years ago
I may just be contextualizing here, but I cannot shake the notion that this song is about sin and redemption. It seems to me that he has committed some sin in the past that won't leave him alone. This song is about the reality of sin. The harsh, painful reality. Though this sin doesn't define him, it haunts him.

He is crying out to the God that he knows his merciful, gracious, and loving. Though he knows of God's forgiving nature, it's so much harder to accept forgiveness when you know you've wronged Him. So he keeps running. He doesn't want to. He is asking, begging God to comfort him. To shield him. To hold him. To keep His arms open so he can turn around and run BACK into them instead of running away.
