Although satire is used in this song, I don't think it's a complete mockery. Basically, in the modern world -where we have so much but do so little- more and more people are thinking "What's the point? This is so insignificant!!!" even if they don't have any real problems. But this song speaks against that. In this lifetime, you're only here for a short period of time. It's so short that you can't be depressed for all of it. Whatever you do, right or wrong has a mark on the Earth. Hey, you'll help destroy it, you won't be here for the end so that's not bad.
And if you don't like it hey- you only have once chance to endure it! |

I think the song is about the idea of "eternity" - forever. Society promises us an everlasting happiness whether that being through a blissful afterlife or finding a "true love" which will stand the test of time. But it's bullshit. All of it. And the realization is pretty shitty. |

After watching The Making Of Goddamnit last night (I started to get back into Alkaline Trio and two days ago I realised I wanted Goddamnit so I bought the limited edition one yesterday) I found out the song was about when Matt went to visit a friend in San Francisco and, fell in love with the city.. He wrote the song whilst drinking in the airport :)
Also; I'm in love with San Francisco even though I've not been there..

Read the lyrics, it just pretty much says it all. Its saying, some people have nothing be happy with what you have. I'm sure Rancid can relate to that, growing up in a bad area and that. Love this song, used to listen to it alot when I was younger as my sister played it every day. |

I think its about people who say they are punk, or whatever but aint, the people who just care about being famous and getting fans. Basicly posers. Nothing like rancid. Or, maybe about liars who betrayed rancid or something. I've been listing to this song more and more now 'cause me and my mate had a serious fallout and she keeps saying stuff about me and my mates. so i get my anger out on this song haha. |
