Cue: anything that excites to action; a stimulus. Drug abuse? -- Plenty of references throughout to physical deterioration: drugs - cue to a face so forsaken, cue to the look in your eyes, cue to your heart that is racing. You try to break the mould before you die - a mould is used for forming and shaping: drugs shapes, petrifies, makes a person look forsaken. You try to break the mould, before it's too late and you become like stone. Hence: stone, mould, face so forsaken. Singing: pleasure, comfort, emotion - it exemplifies life, having some power, love, emotion or whatever, left inside you. -- Sing for your lover like blood from a stone, sing for your lover who's waiting at home: stop being a slave or a lifeless object, bleed, live, prove you have blood going through your vains: break the mould. But: If you sing when you're high and you're dry as a bone then you must realize that you're never alone and you'll sing with the dead instead. Imo he's referring to his or someone else's struggle with addiction: the process of becoming empty, trying to fight the adiction, at least do so for a lover who's waiting at home, but when you sing when you're high and dried up, it doesn't mean anything, you're not really bleeding, you're not really singing: you're dead and singing empty junky-poetry. You'll sing it with the others who are dead like you and your lover won't be waiting at home. |

Really love this song, pure poetry. The lyrics as written above here are incorrect though. I'm not claiming my version is perfect but some things are really off, anyone could hear/read. Two versions i know, the album version, as the one i've written below here. And the "extended and adjusted" live version, which i love best, and which i've written on the bottom. (you can watch it on youtube, the version with Dot Allison, Manc04. She opened her heart To a tearaway (dot: sheepskin tearaway) He was covered in scars And full of heroin Everyone said from the start Not one single thing, could ever be OK She didn't listen any way... She just opened her heart Threw her cares away At night he helt her so tight in the dark He brushed her hair away She heard him say All my life I've been fighting And making the best of a really very bad lot, very bad lot, veryy bad lot indee-eed, All you're fighting got you nowhere If nowhere's here with you On my skin And you could fight forever But if you killed them all You'd never win So give me your surrender There are other ways To kill the pain But things [?] will never mend you It's like trying to dry your eyes in the pouring rain she opened her heart to a tearaway [dot allison: sheepskin tearaway] All covered in scars and full of heroin Tearaway, sheepskin tearaway sheep, sheep, sheep, sheep, sheep sheepskin tearaway ------------- She just opened her heart To tearaway, (sheepskin tearaway) He was weared with scars And full of heroin Everyone told her, right from the start Not one single thing, could ever be OK She didn't listen any way... She just opened her heart Threw her cares away At night he helt her tight in the dark He brushed her hair away She heard him say All my life I've been fighting And making the best of a {..] and very bad lot indee-eed, Ah she opened her heart to a tearaway [dot allison: sheepskin tearaway] He was covered in scars and full of heroin Everyone said from the start not one single thing could ever be okay She didn't mind anyway All you're fighting got you nowhere If nowhere's here with you On my skin And you can fight forever But even if you killed everybody You'd never win So just give me your surrender There are other ways To kill the pain But they will never mend you It's like trying to dry your eyes in the pouring rain She opened her heart To a tearaway, (Doherty: sheepskin tearaway) Was covered with scars And full of heroin Tearaway, sheepskin tearaway Sheep, sheep, sheep, sheep, sheep Sheepskin tearaway --------- Song, in my opinion, is about a girl who falls in love with a less fortunate guy who's addicted and been through a difficult life. Everybody tells her not to do it and this guy is no good, but as most women she falls for this bad guy. And though they face diificulties, she appreciates the time they spend together and the image of him only she gets to see, when they are alone and together. He tells about his bad life and his unfortunate destiny and the way he always had to fight the whole world because of it. And she tries to help him end this life by telling him he can't always fight everybody and needs to stop this life, have peace with his past and let her in so she can make him happy. And if he keeps on fighting and is not willing to let go 'it's like drying your eyes in the pouring rai'n, his old life will haunt him and he will be stuck in this downward spiral. It's really beautifull poetry, girl finds difficult guy and wants to change him and have him open his heart as she did. Loads of people can relate to it in some way, the guys a genius. |

This song is clearly about a woman who is married to a guy just for his money But she feels guilty about it, because even with all this wealth she is unhappy about herself being involved in a relationship just for it, and her guilty conscience grows towards him and herself. The artist feels her guilty conscience grow as well, maybe by noticing she is unhappy in life [Come waste your millions here, secretly she says Another corporate show, a guilty conscience grows] 'She burns like the sun, and i can't look away, she'll burn our horizons' may refer to the fact that he can clearly see her burning of unhappiness or simply because of the fact that it shows that she is just because him for his money. This way she is burning both their horizons, in view of life expectations and future life. Because there is more to life than money, and she is missing crucial things because of this money obsessed relationship. 'Come let the truth be shared, no one ever dared To break these endless lies, secretly she cries' may refer to the fact that both of them know that their relationship is a lie, but their lives started to cross each other and none of them talk about their emotions towards each other. 'And I'll hide from the world behind a broken frame And I'll burn forever, I can't face the shame' Artist is too proud to admitt that he fell for this woman, and that she is just with him for his money. He is probably succesfull and doesn't want to admitt that he failed her and himself. That is why he chooses to continue this facade 'behind a broken frame', something that looks good but is broken inside. This way he will 'burn forever', in my opinion is this relationship and 'endless lies'. |
