The line "you'll soon forget about me" is incongruent with "your eyes are crying my name / seeing the same", so I think this other person has mutual feelings for him but is hiding it out of fear. He's willing to profess love and do anything for them even though they're not ready to open up - but he tells them it's okay, we can slow down and take it easy. |

It's definitely about Australia and the whole song has the feel of an Australian summer night.
Because of the Southern Cross (Crux constellation) and stars/sky references, I think there's some more in this song. It could be Orion the Hunter as the "hunter dancing under the trigger", Sirius dog constellation (Canis Major) as the "dog watching over me in my sleep", and Andromeda as the "bride washing up on the shore". The lines about doves, ships and lions are also part of the constellation mythology. |
