I think that the hospital is a metaphor. Because of when she says "your words like smog, they made me sick, but they kept me warm" I think the guy in the hospital had a bad past as far as girlfriends and lovers. He let himself slip too far into sexuality and now he is tainted and feels sick. He is reaching out for help to the narrator (his girlfriend), who also has to deal with the aftermath of his adolescence. He is trying to deal with it all himself, "you have bent your shoulders, to hold the weight of the world" but she says that he can really get away and be free from all of his past. When i listen to this song, i think that the Magnolias relate to God and Spirituality. the whole album seems to have a spiritual vibe. Maybe she is telling him to seek forgiveness. |

This song screams of drugs to me. when you are on hard drugs, not only do you miss out on everything because you are too stoned, but the things that you are sober for... you forget in a few months because your brain is messed up so bad. maybe his friends are all the people he did drugs with and thats why he lost all of them when he is making his apology and why he forgot every memory he had of them, when he still seems to remember the girl. maybe she was his best friend before. |

i have no idea if this is correct, but i always related to the last portion of the song about the echo. the event that shaped me into who i am, happened far away from me. i didnt know any of the people, i didnt know that places, i could only repeat the stories. so i became the echo of what had happened. it also says that we are all connected, and that we need to notice it. i think it relates to the echo, because the same event has caused similar echos in other peoples lives. in that way, we are all connected, and maybe if everyone realized that, they would think twice about their actions and history wouldn't be so cruel. its probly not right, but it makes sense to me |

This song is about female strength. she seems to have gotten stuck in a relationship that is holding her down and she has realized that she doesn't need him and is stronger without him. that last bit, makes is very clear that she was in fear, but will not let it hold her back. she is leaving and setting her own course. |

I think the song is about denial. the boy in the song doesn't seem to be sure about anything. he doesn't know how beautiful he is, he says that he is fine, but the narrator (who seems to know him better than he knows himself) doesn't believe him. he is in denial of how horrible his life is. he has become complacent. he has given up on trying to make things better, and seems to have forgotten that he ever dreamed of bigger things. Say there's something better But today, there is a cold moon rising And you wanted something better But tonight, tonight, you're giving up the narrator is telling him to acknowledge his sadness and do something about it. she wants him to let it all out, feel the pain, and run from it. until he can do that, he will never see better options even if they are staring him in the face. |
