yep, pretty much. however, i always thought it was "to prove their lives." not just because it rhymes with wives, but because dog tags are used to identify the dead - the only thing differentiating them from their fellow soldiers. and i LOVE the way the drums sort of sound like a marching drum at times. brilliant. |

i definitely agree that this song is about alienating yourself from your friends when you're suffering through heartbreak, and i can relate to that a lot. i also love the idea of "sister winter" - the fact that he refers to it as sister makes it almost a term of endearment, which suggests that it's famaliar to him and there's maybe even some comfort there. it reminds me of nirvana - "i miss the comfort in being sad." maybe his relationship lifted him out of that place for a moment in time, but now he's returned. |
