I know it was written about a drug addiction, but the lyrics make me think of suicide/self-harm. Especially because "I don't know what's worth fighting for" is a pretty common thought going through a person's mind when they are thinking about suicide... |

Definitely about someone dying before someone else could thank them for all they've done. It's a song that never gets old, and it's so powerful that it's beyond words.
Though the line about the heart is deep, for me, the "what would you think of me now, so lucky, so strong, so proud...i've never said thank you for that" gets to me every single time. I've spent my entire life trying my hardest to get people to think of me as a good person, that it's something I know I would ask a friend who meant a lot to me if they died.
Amazing song though. |

I think the "take your time, take my time" line is her saying that she's willing to listen to anything the person would have said. When people are depressed, they don't often seek the help of friends when they should. I think she's saying that as a friend, she's willing to listen, no matter how long she has to listen for. She has all the time in the world for her friend.
I definitely think it's about suicide or depression though. |

I agree with IsThisAllADream completely. Everyone assumes every song is about a bf/gf, but when I think of this song, I think more of losing a friend. It pretty much explains my life right now, because one of my friends and I are on rough terms with each other. He said something hurtful to me, and I yelled at him. Things got better, but now he's starting to ignore me, and I don't know why. So it hurts that he's ignoring me, and because he's ignoring me, and because of what he said, I can't let it go. Some of my other friends are telling me he's a jerk and I should move on and find new friends, but I CAN'T. I don't want to move on and be alone, but I don't like what he's done... |
