I think one of the best part of lyrics and poems is that they are up to the interpretation of the listener and that everyone may interpret them differently depending on past experiences. To me Ever Dream is a song about true love, about longing to find that special someone. You really believe that they exist but you do not know how to find them. Every now and then you stop and wonder what it will be like when you find them. They will be the kind of person who is so perfect that they'll make every bit of hell you have had to go through worth it and then some. It is dreaming about this person and wondering if maybe, they are dreaming about you too (even though you have never met). But this person is not just a passing thought, they are your lifeline. They are hope. |

Basically I think that it is about Tuomas, about possibly loosing his band, which is his life. His home was where he was the happiest, when he was younger, without all the fame and praise. He is glad that people like his music, but he is sick of the praise from people who do not even know him. He does not want to be forced to write anymore and he knows without his poems, he is nothing (at least in the eyes of everyone else). To him, everything he has to say has already been said. The song is most definitely in reference to Edgar Allen Poe's the Pit and the Pendulum, a story where a Spaniard is kidnapped and left to die all kinds of horrible different ways including by the blade of a pendulum that decends slowly while he is tied up. He is able to escape these dreadful fates, but there are times when he longs for death. Tuomas is always making references to water and it seems like at this point he is longing to die by drowning and end the torture. Death is seen as a beautiful thing. It sounds as if Tuomas thinks that when he is gone the band will go on playing without him, that he will not even be mourned by the band members. He wants to leave all the pressure and expectations but he can't because it will hurt all of his fans, not just himself. Basically, he has become a whore for the world because he does what his fans want him to, not what he wants for himself. Notice also that there is exactly three minutes between when the boy says "three minutes and counting" and when you hear the sound of the pendulum and Tuomas's death is anounced. All in all, the song is about everything a man might think about when he realizes that his life has fallen apart and death is a very immediate posability. |

To me this song is about a little girl who is being hurt by the people around her. She is so sweet and gentle that it puts most everyone else to shame and the antagonists use her kind-hearted nature against her. She seems to have made the decision to leave because she ardently believes that there is a better world out there somewhere. So she is not giving up until she finds it. The people that she loves are the ones hurting her, which makes it all the worse because she cannot hate them. "For the memory of one kind word she would stay among the beasts" If just one person would treat her nicely and be her friend she would have a reason to stay. She would endure whatever anyone through at her if she had just one person she could trust. |

The first stanza of the song is written in thrid person about a woman. It sounds to me as if she longs for death, but is not neccessarily suicidal. It seems like she is trying to escape from something so she obviously cares enough about her life to try and protect it, but she is not happy. She's torn. The rest of the song is written in first person and the writer seems to know the girl even though he has never met her. Maybe he understands her predicament. He wants to help because she is important to him, though he does not know why. She is his inspiration. Her beauty gives him something to write for. |
