NOFX – Zyclone B Bathouse Lyrics 16 years ago
Lurius Vulpius , I think the lines

"As the train goes by, they'll turn away
Only doppler is effected not their hearts
With a "better them than me" and a "better off this way"

alludes to the way people will (and did) turn a blind eye to atrocities because a) it isn't happening to them (and if they get involved there's a possibility it might), and b) it's too horrific to admit to yourself that it's happening (and that you're passively allowing it); often it's psychologically easier to ignore it. How much suffering around the world appears in our newspapers and we give it a mere cursory glance and then turn the page "unaffected"?

The line "with a better them then me and a better of this way" reminds me of the proverb "First they came for..."

The sentiment of this song always reminds me of Father of Mine by Everclear.

Glasvegas – Cruel Moon Lyrics 16 years ago
This is one of the most beautiful songs I've heard in a long time. I can't help but well up when I hear this.

At first I thought the first line was "slipping in and out of our consciousness" to reflect how the homeless are perceived (or unperceived) by wider society, but since the song is in first person perspective that doesn't really make sense. I've seen "slipping in and out of unconsciousness" which would perhaps make more sense.
