I don't think anti-capitalists should be so affected by the bits about money, the way I see it, the final line of the song is exactly what anti-capitalism is about, and I think most anti-capitalists would have to agree with the very basic idea of the song, or be at least somewhat hypocritical. |

Well, the first mention of Hell comes from the New Testament, not the old, and Jesus curses a bunch of people who aren't convinced by his preaching to a not-particularly-pleasant future. There's a passage with Jesus cursing a fig tree for not bearing fruit out of season (yup) so that it wouldn't give fruit ever again.
And whatever your definition of Hell is, Jesus' Hell had "wailing and gnashing of teeth". He was certainly warning people about it, and that warning usually comes off as "obey an arbitrary set of rules or suffer very disproportionately" to people who aren't sold on infinite reward or punishment being consistent with a God supposed to be more just than anyone or anything else. |
