This is certainly about keeping a relationship/marraige going. Most of it is love song fluff, but the key line is this: What can we do When the words we use sometimes are misconstrued They just were in an argument over some misunderstanding. Happens all the time in marriages (personal experience). I think he talking literally about a man who killed his girlfriend.
