This emotion that you interperate in this song is exactly what I see too. But i think this song relates to the war seen in a "M.A.D. world". That means mutual assured destruction from war. It basicly means that when people fire at someone and know the defender will fire back, resulting in "people that run in circles" will eventually lead to both the defender and attackers destruction. You can read my response on the 5th page that explains more.

I personly believe this song is something differnt than everyones interpratations. This song is about the affects of war. "mad world" could also be "M.A.D. world". This acronym means: Mutual assured destruction. The line thats states "when people run in circles" also backs this up. Mutual assured destruction is a term used in the military knowing to state that if the attacker used nuclear weapons to attempt to destroy another place that also had nuclear weapons, would fire back to result in the destruction of both the defender and attacker. This means that if war continues on "when people run in circles" we will both end up destroying each other and no one will win.

"All around me are familiar faces. Worn out places, worn out faces" This describes the setting(destruction to buildings, dead people) of where a soldier could be. "Bright and early for their daily races. Going nowhere, going nowhere" means that the soldier is fighting but they know that it will lead to no victory and that he knows everyone is going to end up dead most likely. They probably think that there is no point to fighting.

"Their tears are filling up their glasses. No expression, no expression" can also describe the setting of the place, and saying that people are crying and are hopeless."Hide my head I want to drown my sorrow." Could mean that the soldier is in battle hiding and trying not to cry or make a sound because he doesnt want to be discovered so they dont die. They see people all around dying. "No tomorrow, no tomorrow" means that tomarrow will be the same as the current day and so will all they days to come. This is becaue they know that this war will continue on and probably end up killing most of civilization.

The line that says "Hello teacher, tell me, whats my lesson?" could mean that the people are asking the government what will come out of fighting in war. Then following this line is "Look right through me" which means the government wont answer the people's question war will continue on.

This song is about the affects of war. It explains that war isnt the solution and nothing good comes out of war. You could also interperate that it's the governments fault that war continues on. Also, the government has the power to put an end to war that would result in a less lives lost.
