"the ticker-tape tangles my feet" - ticker-tape symbolising success, glorification a la new york ticker-tape parade but the adoration is what's fucking him up, causing / exacerbating his loneliness - "tangles my feet as i search for a face that i know" wonderful lyric |

The consensus is that this a love song. I should think not. Rather a political tract, surely. A call to arms - the rude premier "he'll have to go" roll on the revolution, Wolfie Smith. The clue is in the title. STALINS. A puschtist with a heart however: "You are the only thing in any room you're ever in" - why should this be so? body odour? Halitosis? Severe malformity? Or just terribly dull. She who is capable of clearing a room merely by her presence is however tolerated by our hero. And she returns with an IMPARTIAL sigh. She is interested, but impartial. A referee maybe. Would explain the room clearing. Or a traffic warden, but one not on a productivity bonus. "Darling is this love". Probably not. |
