I think these lyrics can be a source of depression to whom listens to the song in a sentimental mood. The voice seems to say that now s/he is so sad that s/he is not living anymore, but even so the sadness will keep on. And the cause of the sadness is something or some body who came to drown her/him "in the mud". It is like a Samuel Beckett work. |

I do not have any idea what was Mike Patton thinking of when he wrote these lyrics. But, when I listen to them (and whith that music, brutal, desperating, full of feeling), I think of the people who have deeply hurt me and later on came back whith a big smile on their big mouths. These lyrics also make me think of what people who cannot stop taking drugs, or either staying with violent partners may feel. Apotheosic. |
