Yes it definitely sounds like a wedding song to me. I think the lyrics on the site might be incorrect. When I change the lyrics in the following ways, the song makes more sense to me: "And the seasons Will change us new...If it were[n’t] true..." and "Soil and six feet under..[Kept] just like we were Before you knew you'd know me..." To me the song is a story about meeting someone and then falling in love. The recurring theme is that the other partner "knows me" (like no one else does and so this is special). The first lyrics are "they're playing our song", so obviously there is a "special" song out there for the couple. "And the seasons..." this whole clause is about what's happening in the past. The Seasons (during their dating period) "changed us new." They changed "new" during dating (so the implication is that love regenerated them from a sluggish life maybe). Those Seasons were would "Be the best I've KNOWN." (that's how I know this clause takes place in the past). [Now coming back to the present day] "And you known me" ..."I could not be stuck on you...If it weren't true." Obviously here, there is some kind of big commitment going on, and he's telling her, "hey, you know me. [i'm not with you for no reason] "I could not be stuck on you, if it weren't true." As in true love. Ok. Second clause. "I was sleeping/swimming" (sounds like swimming, but he does say sleeping as I heard on the ipod). So she told him that "opening (as in opening your heart) is just the start (to a great life)..."it was" (as in, OMG, there was SO much more after opening up my heart). Ok. Third clause. Now I see you, til kingdom come..." To me, obviously their now getting married. Now the Chorus. The Chorus only makes sense if you read it together. Soil and six feet under...[Kept or Killed] just like we were...Before you knew you'd know me...and you know me." So before she knew that she would know him, they were both "six feet under" w/ life so to speak, and they were "Kept just like [that]." They remained just like that - 6 feet under. "and you know me." (Just a matter of reintroducing the song's theme: "you know me." Saying, holy crap this girl "knows me!" NOW. Second part of Chorus. Blooming up from the ground 3 Rounds and a sound Like whispering you know me..And you know me. Obviously they were "blooming up from the ground" symbolically speaking. (once they met, they "bloomed" up from not being so happy "the ground"; Probably at a party where "they're song" was playing). 3 rounds and a sound. Like 3 rounds of dancing, and "a sound" (their song!). "like whispering you know me." Like "our song" was whispering to him that she "knew him." (as in maybe they met in another life). Now she DOES, "know [him]". "criss cross..." Like thinking back and forth whether this relationship is going to work, kinda like "a fog." But don't worry because "he could not give up a fight." Since everyone knows that relationships are Hard Work. In summary, before the couple met, they were 6 feet under, and while they were dating they had the Best time. Now their getting married and he reminiscing on how they were 6 feet under, but then "bloomed up from the ground" after meeting. There were 3 rounds of dancing and "a sound" (their song), which whispered to him that she knew him, and as it turns out their getting married and now she Does know him. : ) |
