The Doors – Wintertime Love #1 Lyrics 16 years ago
I feel that this song is commentary on summer's almost gone, as it is right after this on the ablum (I forget which one, waiting for the sun maybe?)

"Wintertime winds blow cold this season.
Falling in love, I'm hoping to be."

- this contrasts the summertime situation. The whole world is cold, mirroring his situation now that his relaxed, sunny love is gone. He needs a pick me up basically, partially just a sex me up but also maybe a deeper relationship to rescue him. Hey it's what Mercutio or whatever said for Romeo to do so if it's good enough for Shakespeare...

"Come with me, dance my dear."

- makes me think it's a parody of a relationship; a dance i.e. sortof a contrived game? I don't know though, could just be a sortof less sinister let's get together...

"my wintertime love to be."

- He's still looking; not found. Could be before winter, i.e. fall when he's like, I need a new target so I'm not bumming the summer still.

"Wintertime winds blew in freezin'
Coming from northern storms in the sea.
Love has been lost, is that the reason.
Trying so desperately to be free."

- To me this is another reference to the summer's almost gone song. This is from the summer song: "1)Noon burn gold into our hair 2) At night, we swim the laughin' sea and 3) We had some good times; But they're gone; The winter's comin' on; Summer's almost gone" Note that the laughing sea now has northern storms. There's no more burning or golden imagery with the winter. The good times that are gone, with the winter coming on, is the love that has been lost. Now, the situation isn't "I have a woman and I feel I may lose her" but rather, "I desperately want a woman" which is kindof like a symmetric, but opposite situation?

I think that he's got the woman once relaxing now giving him icy isolation, now, he's seeing it as like, he was at a peak this summer, then it feel to a low point mid fall. Now, it's mid fall or a little later, and he's looking forward to a wintertime love. At the point he's at it's sortof pathetic, because he had a woman and now he NEEDS a woman to get by again but, it's actually the up-turn of the sin curve (anyone, math?) for him - he's not got the love found yet but he knows he'll be 'desperately' looking for that pick me up.

See summer's almost gone too if you're looking into this song. Can't believe no one mentioned that yet, it's obvious they're linked even BEFORE you know they're right one after the other on the cd.

The Doors – Summer's Almost Gone Lyrics 16 years ago
I forget the album but this song is right before wintertime love. I'm thinking that's not coincidence - I think they're related. He could be worried that the summertime lover will be over when the summer's over. I felt this way during summer knowing this song, it didn't work, and now it's a bummer of a song to me. SAAD~ See wintertime love by the doors too~

Drowning Pool – Mute Lyrics 16 years ago
Shouldn't have that far to go
The less you think the more you know
(implying overanalysis)
It seems the dream is impossible
Never made a difference so why should you
(Could be any dream; more likely someone trying to succeed where he did and he's telling them off, or maybe a love affair? "I never meant anything to you, why do you to me?")
Promise me you won't look at me
(If the person succeeded; or the love affair after failure if you go that route.)
There's nothing left here to talk about
There's nothing left
(Straightforward; nut up or shut up; or I don't wanna hear from you ex lover)
No matter how hard I try
The lonely one refuses to die
(This makes me lean toward love affair but could be less straightforward and mean bitterness about his failure at something else and loneliness brought by isolation i.e. he's unable to share his sadness for fear it would be viewed as weakness?)
Someday I will be a better man
(open to interpretation)
Never made a difference so why should I
Promise me you won't look at me

Drowning Pool – Tear Away Lyrics 16 years ago
Love over and he's not over it song. Exposition:

I'm tearing away
(Loss of self/he's beating himself up)
Pieces are falling
I can't seem to make them stay
(He tries to talk and say right things they go wrong and get worse)
You run away
Faster and faster you can't seem to get away
(She's trying to make distance but it doesn't help him stop thinking of her; or she's being polite but basically effectively stringing him on)

Break!
(Up, duh)

Hope there's a reason
For questions unanswered
I just don't see everything
(He can't talk openly to her about questions he still has, or at least can't trust what she's saying to be true anymore so same effect)
Yes I'm inside you
Tell me how does it feel to feel like this
Just like I do
(Possible ideas: 1) He wants her to still care and thinks maybe she's BSing and still does, 2) He knows she wont tell him to get away so he likes making her awkward because it's all he's got now and she's trapped so they're BOTH trapped in his mind in a similar way, 3) He can't move on and as long as he's making things hard for her she can't find anyone new thus still in his mind similar.)

I don't care about anyone else but me
I don't care about anyone
I don't care about anyone else but me
I don't care about anyone
(This is kindof like the voice of truth breaking through, see next verse).

Do i really want this
Sometimes i scare myself I just can't let it go
(This is where he reveals he thinks he could say goodbye and let them both rest but he's unwilling to do so; it seems he really would be relieved by it but doesn't know if he wants her to be? He's doing it on purpose though; and he doesn't know why he's still hanging on either to just torturing her, or maybe to the idea of getting her back. Maybe, just holding onto the pain?)
Can you believe it?
Everything happens for reasons
I just dont know
(If it all happened 'for the best' he may be induced to let it go; but there's no proof yet?)

I don't care about anyone else but me
I don't care about anyone else but me
I don't care about anyone or anything but me

Goddamn I love me
(He's posturing sorrow; but likely there was no one there but him in the first place. And it's still about him, not her.)

I don't care about anyone else but me
I don't care about anyone
I don't care about anyone else but me
I don't care about anyone

NOTES: 1) It could be another guy lol; I assumed 'her' but even if he wasn't gay you can write a song about an idea and not mean it directly to your life. 2) I don't think he's advocating it, he's just expressing the experience of someone who is in this position. Maybe he's even trying to reveal the attitude to comment on how it's pathetic. It's certainly not presented as glorious or functional behavior.

Hope it wasn't retarded!

Sheryl Crow – A Change Would Do You Good Lyrics 16 years ago
I've been thinking 'bout catching a train
Leave my phone machine by the radar range
Hello it's me, I'm not at home
If you'd like to reach me, leave me alone

I think that this says, she's leaving, she'll be looking to if there are any calls to her from this guy she's leaving. If he calls pesteringly, then she'll know he's not changed; if he doesn't call (leaves alone) then she'll actually be reached in a meaningful way because he's allowing her to have her change, and giving himself the credibility that he may have changed too.

I don't know that she's saying he'd get another chance that way or not though; but he'd definitely make an impression if he leaves her alone since she's showing signals that's what she needs that he's changed, that he couldn't make to her if he calls.
