Other than the name Timothy, I find it odd Timbaland chose to sample from Jet's Timothy. Timothy is a very sad, melancholic song about the death of a young boy (the older brother of one of Jet's bandmembers died at a younger age, explained in the lyrics 'I took your place' and 'She cried in the kitchen to let you go'). This version of the song overall seems to be Timbaland reflecting on the successes of his life and career, so I can't imagine he picked Timothy for it's true meaning. |

She's a girl in a relationship with Alejandro but flirts/cheats with Fernando and Roberto and knows that she's playing with fire and needs to put a stop to it. All three are aware of the situation and trying to persuade her that he is the guy for her, but she doesn't want to hear it and wants to make up her mind on her own. She knows Alejandro obviously isn't the guy for her, as he couldn't provide enough for her in the first place, so I think the song is either about her wanting space to decide which man is the one for her or perhaps he just trying to write off all three... As for what symbolism that has to real life, well I don't know. Also, I think both versions of the lyrics miss a lyric: "Just smoke one more cigarette and hush" |
