The Matches – Clouds Crash Lyrics 15 years ago
Shawn has become such an amazing lyricist since their first few albums, the imagery in this song is so poignant, I feel like I am there in that meadow watching the cloud crash upon the hillside every time I listen to it! And the strings make me feel like shedding a tear :)

I don't think the song is necessarily about a relationship between a boy and girl, I think it is more about just how life seems to speed up as we get older. I'm definitely feeling that acceleration where I'm at in my life, being 20 and not a teenager anymore, it makes you think about how if you don't accomplish something with your life in the next 10 years you are a failure. Quite horrifying.

But I think the song definitely has nostalgia for the past, when we were children, the summers used to seem like forever. Now we don't even have any free time in the summer because of our jobs. And I think the "come with me and be free" bit is just Shawn suggesting we join him in living our lives without letting it all speed by.

PS: the version I have doesn't say that btw, it sounds like it says "you're not linen, you are skin again." weird.

Gogol Bordello – God-Like Lyrics 16 years ago
the liner notes on the CD say it is "Sally Norvell"
i have no clue who that is, but her voice is so smokey and beautiful...
i really hate when women have high whiny voices, it makes them seem so immature and naive. but it's so attractive when a woman has a sultry voice like the one in this song!

also, gogol bordello is amazing. if you haven't seen them live, make it a priority to, it is unlike any show you have ever been to or will ever go to. I've seen them three times and every time gets better! (except when it's at the fox in pomona, the fire marshall just loves to not let you go down to the dance floor there.)

Goldfinger – Carlita Lyrics 16 years ago
least favorite? this is by far my MOST favorite goldfinger song. this and King for a Day.

one thing i have always wondered, though, is who is the guy that sings on this (other than feldmann)?

either way, when i hear PLAY IT GOLDFANGA and that booming sub-contrabass in the end, i gotta start moving.

Queen – Good Company Lyrics 16 years ago
yeah, there are a lot of errors in the lyrics here.

but i love this song, i love how brian can replicate an entire dixieland jazz band with just his guitar, and yet you know exactly which parts are supposed to be the different instruments like sax, trombone, and oboe. he is a master of tone.

NOFX – Cokie The Clown Lyrics 16 years ago
Well I think it's pretty obvious as to what this song means.

If we wanted to get symbolic, we could say that maybe this is how Fat Mike feels about the fact that everyone knows he is a coke-head; that it's all amounted to a big joke, and he is the butt of it-- that he has to be a clown about it and that this is "his show," like he is on display for everyone to make judgments about his drug addiction, when they have no idea what it's really like. He has to play the "happiest clown" when he really has the "biggest frown." I quite like the "12 giant steps" part as well, which he is obviously referring to a 12-step rehab program. Look out, Fat Mike's whipping out the metaphors!!!

I think this was probably meant to just be another funny NOFX song though, knowing them. The video is hilarious too! And I actually do really like the song as well, with the two leitmotifs: Melvin has the minor-sounding chord progression, and when "Cokie" sings it goes into the first-person and the chord progression takes a turn to the major. And even though it has the typical punk drum beat throughout the song, the chord progression when Cokie sings expands upon the "expected" three-chord punk progression, making the musicality of it a little more interesting; it isn't what you would expect from a normal NOFX progression.

I'm going to see them at the Fox in Pomona in a few weeks, should be awesome, as always!
