The Cure – From the Edge of the Deep Green Sea Lyrics 16 years ago
Robert has just said this song is about drugs, but it could be about having sex with other women while on drugs, or sex being a drug, sure. I think more about the amazing flow of the lyrics, like in A Letter to Elise on the same album, when I listen to this song, at least nowadays.

Someone said it's odd that Robert writes songs like this while being with his childhood sweetheart. Well, I think Mary knows her man. Not that I don't think they've ever cheated on each other all this time or anything, but at least in an interview in 1996, speaking about the lusty lyrics to The 13th, Rob said Mary knows he's not perfect and loves him the way he is. Maybe they have an "understanding."

A funny side note: In an interview in 85, Rob said "hanging yourself" meant "touching yourself lovingly" (The French interviewer quoted him saying he'd hang himself if The Cure was a French band). So now you all know what that part of the song means.
