I think it's just a general statement about reaching the point in life when the party stops and responsibility sets in, specifically leaving college, but possibly that may just be symbolic references. The last verse is obviously a bit more of a personal reflection on his partner of that time. I think that the ocean, tide and riot in the square are showing that she represents his youth to him, but still with the theme that it's all over. That's just my take on it. Either way, amazing song. |
