| I agree as well. Though, sometimes I get a sense of the song being about humans and their own families and how we use eachother to find our own path in life without thinking of the feelings of others or how it may effect the world. This song makes me think about how I am taking my own existence for granted; as many do. | |

This is what I thought as well. But, sometimes artists have many meanings in their songs. Could be about all of them, or just one. John Lennon, in an interview, once said that every meaning is in a song, in the music. But it is, in the end, up to the listener to interpret it for himself and find his own meaning in it. But, I agree with you on this one. This song is one of my favorites. |

| Maybe it's about letting go of grudges from the past. Finding your own faith that is true to you. And knowing that your mind is the creation of all you see, and that all you see is the creation of your mind. | |

| I think you're hearing what you want to hear in the song. I do that a lot. I listen to a song for a while then look up lyrics to see if I was right and I usually learn a lot about myself in turn. Music has a way of relating to us even when the lyrics seem unlikely to. | |

In my opinion this song and video is talking about how selfish (and sad) existence is/can be; the belief one "needs" to procreate themselves again is quite a proud belief to posess. (not specifically talking about humanity here. even though humans are pretty much the most selfish creatures on earth.):: man wouldn't be man without a woman; (the earth, the trees, the sea) to nurture and provide meaning for their existence. and women would not be women without a man; (the life that consumes the earth) to father and protect new life. consumption and reproduction are truly disgusting, and very selfish. (i mean yeah, sure...survival is key...but for what reason do we reproduce exactly? hmm... it's not like any child ever ASKED to be born.) women want to be loved and want to nurture children/new life that is also loved. (to live through their children again and correct mistakes they made in their life.) but men just want to reproduce for they are lusted and tempted to spread their seed. so much so that they'd even turn on the hand that fed them to do so. (men wish to teach their sons the "importance" of finding many suitable mates, so to continue his genes on to new life) "You think it's alright." - women justify their suffering and self-sacrifice through experiencing the creation of their own children, which is either beautiful or extremely gross, depending on how you look at it. "Don't you feel the knife?" - and the men keep at it and keep at it for the women never stop to think that maybe they shouldn't be procreating at all, for it only feeds into the agenda of selfishly tempted men. i'm not a feminist or anything. but after watching the bands video for this song, i definitely got a feeling for the meaning of it. i love grizzly bear. sorry i wrote so much. but this song has so much meaning in its' sound. |
