My interpretation. I really think it can apply to many things but, the general idea is what seems to be about people who have been suppressed and during their lifetime they seem to develop a new sense of perception in life or a new life style that does not agree with the current system within that group's environment. Now this could apply in terms or drug use, religion, and capitalism. Mostly capitalism because it is naturally entangled in both drug use and religion and government to be more correct. It ties in all forms of social structure because money in today's world is the driver of power/survival. FIRST VERSE "THE PROPOSITION," - (Statements that are considered to be true! So it means government ideas because they control the NEWS, they have the control. period.) "HANDCUFFED TO THE PARK BENCH" - like IkiIkiTembo said, its a traditional almost classical scene. Haven't you seen the Warriors? anyways it was realy common back in the day to be handcuffed to a bench if you were arrested someone in a park. (but its reverse so the "cop" is being handcuffed) "HYPODERMIC PEOPLE POKING FUN AT THE LIVING" - This is where i get the first idea that drugs are involved in the meaning of the song. "hypodermic" refers to a needle, a hollow needle used for injection. So its a referenced for being injected with something that normally would be considered "normal", in the social norm. Poking fun at the living can literally mean young kids who joke about other living beings. If you ever smoked weed and thought about the world and how our human society's function, you'll understand in a whole new perception about life. Similar to the hippies, the OPPOSITION begin to disagree with what they felt was morally right than what they were brought up, conditioned, or taught..not what they felt. Once you begin to disagree you, make fun of it, you bring it down, verbally.. This may apply to religion as well, meaning you were injected with this new mindset.. being conditioned just how when we were kids, we were conditioned to listen for the bell. Why? Because it taught us to stop and move on to the next task, or to begin a task, or to finish for the day, or to even take a break. So basically the line means to disagree where you attack it verbally/mentally. "PLEASE TAKE THE WEIGHT OUT OF THIS" - Please take this burden off our minds!!! the burden meaning this disagreement, TRUTH is NEEDED! "IT TAKES THE WEIGHT OUT OF LIVING" - It makes us worried and we feel betrayed!!! Are we that manipulated?!?! "ARE WE JUST INFANTS, THAT ARE RIPE FOR THE TRAINING" - Yes we are the infants, because we are the youth and not just the youth, but the PEOPLE! ones that will hold the future and make future decisions. But were we too ripe? This means, if you think about fruits the ones that are ripe are the ones fully developed. The writers trying to ask if we had we fully developed our senses around us. The world we live in, its our world. Do we really want to live like this? So it means we were already developed a sense of self before they could fully control us. "THE OPPOSITION" - (the dissentients(sentential-beings who have a strong contradiction), deviants, group of individuals who do not agree with the current social norms. "CAN'T FEEL THE TENTACLE REACH SUCTION CUP OF THE ELDERLY" - We don't feel for the "long, aggressive" concerns the elders (older people, old ways, government)have about what life is. WE CREATE OUR OWN MEANINGS. We can choose to ignore the arms, even though they stick to us,(and forever will until the act will become acceptable) "PLEASE TAKE THE....." "IT TAKES THE....." "LET THESE WALKERS TRIP ON ENDLESS PROOF" - drug users, protesters alike walk alone together,although their ideas do not have susceptible proof about our lives being controlled for power. If their ideals were true about a secret elite society, there is now way to proof them wrong because they would have created society themselves, creating the rules and ideology that they have been given. CHORUS "PATTERN AGAINST USER - DILATED" - Its a common frequency or pattern that happens to the user/person - When they are in a dilemma, realization, or epiphany. "BASTARD WAITING FOR NOTHING" - You've figured it out, only to learn that you can do nothing but little to it. "CIRCLE CARNY GUARDING, THE GATES OF HEAVEN" - A fool or a employee is guarding your way to the "Good Life." You're in is carnival, you better play his games and ride his rides. "LIKE STUCK IN A LIMBO ABDUCTION" - Limbo religiously refers to a the edge of Hell. If you don't play the games of the Carny, you'll go to Hell. "WORMED OUR WAY TO, DISTANT EARTH" - We've tunneled away from our actually world, What was our world to begin with? "THIS INTUITION LIMBS WITH A CANE OF SUSPICION" - This knowledge we gain, comes with suspicion..Why is it that we have to learn it from our own? Its been kept away from us, and it is even going to be address, why do we not have our rights to live our life the way we shall choose? "FOLDING SPACE IN THE CREASE OF THIS PAGE" - It creates a blockage in a void of opportunities and happiness in our lifetime. "PLEASE TAKE THE....." "IT TAKES THE....." "TRICKLING THE TICKING OF THE GRANDFATHER CLOCK" - This "burden" makes time slow and long hard and tedious. The grandfather clock is a reference for lifetime. BREAKDOWN.whoo almost done "AND IF THIS CLOCK KEEPS TICKING AWAY," Very philosophical, clocks were developed so you'd be on time. In the literal world, we won't need time to tell us what to do, we would be freed to do what we please, if it ticked away. "WELL TIME BE HESITATED FROM ALL THE MINUTES THAT WERE TAKEN AWAY" - Time, sense it was created for social structure purposes will be "struggling in opposition" (reluctant syn to hesitant) from all the time that was taken away from our lives. "WILL YOUR WATCH BE WAITING?" - philosophically speaking, will time ever be used again? "SAND FALLS THROUGH, TIME PORTALS" - TIME HAS ALWAYS EXISTED but the human way of measuring time as not "always" existed. "THESE LANDFILLS - IMMORTAL" - it could mean both natural landfill likes mountains that formed on their own time over time, or human created city structures... either way it means both have existed for years and organizations and government have been existing ever sense we've become the dominate species. So the first half means if the opposition wins, well it become good? well life be better and more enjoyable? "AND IF THIS CLOCK KEEPS BEATING DOWN" - If the proposition wins, hence "beating" down..on us "LET THE BRANDED TIME" - The Time system that has branded our mind, that condition us to live in a certain way, "KEEP PLAYING FROM ALL THE MINUTES THAT WERE TAKING AWAY" Its being "played" because our lives are some how shaped fulfill a certain purpose (money)(money)(money) "WILL YOUR WATCH BE WAITING" - Will your watch be waiting for society to decide what its fate will be?
