| Built to Spill – Carry the Zero Lyrics

According to my personal issues;
The singer is trying to help her rationalize and put into perspective how far she's gone astray from reality.Things didn't work out the way she had planned so she takes comfort in carrying around her misery and regret..which are all memories and mistakes she can't find the strength to forget/fix without 'losing her marbles'. The anxiety of knowing that she needs to accept failure and 'let go' gets so overwhelming she has a mental breakdown and the marbles erupt.They gather them back together time and time again. Both realized her suppression is what caused everything to multiply out of control(carry/add on a zero).She was so "occupied with what other people were or weren't thinking that she dropped her guard and gave up "holding on to her blemishes". She is now humiliated, naked, and emotionally drained of life. He tells her that she is the only one who can ultimately fix herself. Her comatose state is interpreted as a start to "coming back." She tells him that he was unknowingly the cause to all her problems and suppression. He was just trying to help but is now also too weak,irritated, and exhausted. "And now we can't even touch it, afraid it'll fall apart." |

| Elliott Smith – A Passing Feeling Lyrics

Musicians don't write and pour their heart and soul out to tell you about the drugs they are on. They are analogies relating to his life. Every Elliot Smith song on here has comments that says he's talking about frickin heroin. I believe he could have written this song with no intent in having the listener think he was on heroin. There's a bigger message here people. |
