Skinny Puppy – Haze Lyrics 16 years ago
Death in the Tarot represents a metamorphosis. The caterpillar, or worm, transforms into a butterfly. Death is a transition. The death of a relationship is the beginning of a new one. Slice and scar may refer to the dissection of a worm. Worms can regenerate. Cut in half, one section is left behind as the other moves on. This could very well be the metaphor presented here, the metaphor of a failed relationship. Part of us dies. We keep the emotional scars deep inside. The rest lives on. Of course, this is just my opinion. Beautiful song, though. I really dig Puppy's latest releases.

Skinny Puppy – Hardset Head Lyrics 16 years ago
Silent noise is ignorance. By firmly believing in one system of thought at the expense of all others closes doors that may lead to a more ultimate truth. It also creates contention with opposing points of view. By closing the mind to alternative points of view, in essence mankind regresses and crawls back into the primordial ooze. Ignorance breeds intolerance. Fear and doubt breed hated and righteousness. Hardset Head is a reference to stubbornness and narrow-mindedness.

Skinny Puppy – Tormentor Lyrics 16 years ago
Although there are parallels to animal testing, I think Tormentor is about electro-shock therapy and similar cruel treatments for mental disorders, such as lobotomies. Disturbed thoughts, moodswing smile. These lines suggest a mental disorder. Like Assimilate, those that are identified as being different must be assimilated or destroyed. Society cannot tolerate those that are different. Taking away means nothing. Wiping the mind in order to restore sanity only leaves gibbering vegetables. Yes, the subjects can be controlled, but have they identity? Have they will? Again, doctors over step their bounds. Considering how many lobotomies and other cruel treatments had been performed on unwilling subjects, it is quite disturbing. Testure suggests there is a link between cruelty to animals and cruelty to human beings. Tormentor is the proof. The opening line appears to refer to vivisection. The rest, the repercussions of electro-shock therapy.

Skinny Puppy – Testure Lyrics 16 years ago
The connection between animal testing and the medical community is pretty straight forward compared to other Puppy lyrics. The last lines are less clear. 5 year genocide 1945 vivisectvi. 1945 marked the evacuation of many concentration camps at the end of WWII. For about 5 years, cruel experiments were executed on the victims of the holocaust. The suggestion is that the holocaust was just a measure of degrees from animal testing. Just as serial killers start with torturing animals, society's acceptance of animal testing is just that much closer to accepting the extermination of a particular race or creed. Another argument against animal testing.

Skinny Puppy – Dig It Lyrics 16 years ago
Dig it, from what I gather, is a condemnation of the medical community. In the early days, medical students would hire grave robbers to find cadavers to study. In some instances the students would rob the graves themselves. In its yearning for understanding of anatomy, physiology, and the like, the medical community has often left morality on the wayside. Science is what is important, not ethics. The medical community is the same today with animal experimentation, vivisection, and pharmacology with side effects worse than the symptoms the drug alleviates. Kill to Cure. Cures That Kill.

Skinny Puppy – Far Too Frail Lyrics 16 years ago
I can think of several possible meanings as Skinny Puppy lyrics are stream of consciousness and therefore open to many interpretations.

1) This could very well be another animal rights song. Formulate the anguish to alleviate the pain could refer to justifying animal experiments in order to benefit mankind. Far Too Frail may reflect the frailty of the argument, the frailty of the animals, or the frailty of the human will.
2) Quite simply, Far Too Frail may refer to those of a sensitive personality, the thin skinned as it were. Being artists, though, I doubt Skinny Puppy would harp on those of a delicate nature. Being lovers of animals, they too feel deeply.
3) Regarding the speech Reagan makes regarding pornography, it could very well be the topic of the song. SP are not ones to choose samples randomly. Whatever sound bite they choose adds nuance to the song. The sample from Hitchcock's Shadow of a Doubt adds nuance as well. "They're alive. They're human beings" Could this reflect the porn industry's subjection of men and women? During the aids crisis, the porn industry was particularly open to infection. "Forging their demise."

These are just a few gut reactions to the song. I can tell you I was fortunate to experience Far Too Frail live just recently. It came as quite a surprise, a welcome one by my estimation.
