Tom Waits – Come on Up to the House Lyrics 14 years ago
I think that you are probably the closest yet, but I don't think that even with this message to it the song isn't inherently dark or twisted.

I agree with the quote "The world is not my home. I'm just a passing through." having to do with the transient nature of life but and the general jist of the song being about an overwhelming struggle but I think that it's about convincing someone to let go of the reins and while this is a sort of surrender I think that it's a positive thing.

I also think "the house" is a multi-faceted metaphor here. In some stanzas it seems to be a resting place and in some parts I think it's just something bigger than yourself that you can take solace in...much like a physical house.

AFI – I Wanna Mohawk (But Mom Won't Let Me Get One) Lyrics 16 years ago
I honestly think that even though the band went the way they did they are still really good.

Definetly better as a hardcore-punk group though lol

The same goes for The Used

Bauhaus – St Vitus Dance Lyrics 16 years ago
I never like trying to think that Bauhaus is to be taken on anything other than face value but if I had to think of a meaning for this song I'd say maybe it has a connection to the developing goth and deathrock club scene...?

lol idk

The XX – Basic Space Lyrics 16 years ago
I think that the song is about two people struggling to keep their relationship(s) afloat pretty much. Bascially it seems like when Oliver (male singer) sings his parts they are about giving and changing himself to/for his partner in order to buy time with them...he seems to know it's wrong but he still does it does it, possibly because he's afaid to end he relationship.

"Neck, chest, waist to floor
Easy to take, you could take me in fours
Make me a deal, a day a piece
Take it all, just stay a week
...
Hot wax has left me with a shine
Wouldn't know if I'd been left behind
Second skin, second skin"

And Romy's (female singer) parts seem to be about her trying to solidify an unstable relationship because she is also afraid to end it and be alone and possibly vulnerable.

"I'm setting us in stone
Piece by piece, before I'm alone
Air tight, before we break
Keep it in, keep us safe"

Whether the two people speaking are together or not I don't know considering how I'm not sure if Romy and Oliver ever had a relationship or if they were ever singing about themselves but it would explai thier link in the second verse and the last two lines.

"I'll take you in pieces
We can take it all apart
I've suffered shipwrecks right from the start
I've been underwater, breathing out and in
I think I'm losing where you and I begin
...
I can't let it out, I still let you in
I can't let it out, I still let you in"

As for the Chorus...um...not sure...it's gotta relate in some way though.

Great song
