Sdeph5200 thats exacly what I was thinking Everything is on all the time, how could one not be an insomniac, or at least, shortening the night. The sleep means a state of inactiveness. 'Light Up The World As I Fell Asleep' shows he knows he is missing something while he sleeps, but also he realises 'as i fell asleep', the inevitability of missing things due to sleep, and being human. 'A Foxtrot Above My head A Sockhop Beneath My Bed' this shows he is surrounded from head to toe with distractions, and a justification of his want to be active and not waste time when so many things are going on, tv shows to watch, emails to read, calls to make, videos to watch etc. I dont think the 'fireflys' metaphor is limited to technology, people today are just generally busy all the time, so it could also include other activities in our frantic lives. When I Fall Asleep Leave My Door Open Just A crack Even when he is asleep, he is still aware of what he has to do; his mind is still active on what must be done, even though he is in a frustrated state due to the fact that he must fall asleep and embrace his human nature. This is strange as the song itself is quite soothing, but then you see the song is actually a hypothetical; 'IF Ten Million Fireflies...', 'BUT I Would...', so I feel he is frustrated at the inevitability of it, but due to the beautiful and peaceful imagery of the fireflys, the tone of the song is calmed throughout. 'Cause I Saved A Few And I Keep Them In A Jar'. This shows his active mind, even though he is asleep. The song continues to come back and remind the audience of his active mind, his need to do more and squeeze more into the day, which he feels is long, as he is always tired, always busy with technology. This continious reminder is a metaphor for how he always comes back to his state of mind. Over the course of the song he does not move forward at all, no outcome or resolution is reached, meaning he is still trapped between the always spinning world which is always active and working (it doenst stop when he is asleep) in which he cant keep up with, and his human limitations and needs. |

I think this song has to do with yes escapeism, the whole drinking thing, and the veins stuff makes sense. I think it has to do with being out of control, I found references to animalistic behavior: and I can decompose when it suits me I accelerate it we get on all fours I surrender to the storm Decompose from human behaviour to something more primitave and course. THe language he uses in the chorus shows a courseness and roughness; coursing through your innerstates I'm matergrate confused and counterfeit kamakazi's sear the blood inside you. He realises that this is a pattern he must break: lash yourself repeatedly until it sticks until it sticks But the animalistic calling brings him back to falling to his addiction: Need medication, more medication I think the 'I can dissapear' tells people that he knows he deteriorates from his usual self when the alcohol. And he talks about it like an advantage cos he can dissapear 'any time I want to, time I feel you', but he does realise that it is a neverending and irreversable cycle: first you breathe out/ than you have to breathe in This guy Justin Pierre is brilliant |
