| Moderat – Let in the Light Lyrics | 11 years ago |

I cannot interpret the beginning of this song all that well. This is what I have so far: To the space Where she waits She speaks a language Distilled by time ... I like the way... Let in the light but obstruct my view Obstruct my view (Clear voice) Let in the light that obstruct my view Let in the light that obstruct my view Obstruct my view Obstruct my view I could be wrong but doesn't it sound like they are singing "Let in the light (that) I'm struck by you" then they return to the next lyric "Obstruct my view." I left it at "that obstruct my view" |

| Zero 7 – If I Can't Have You Lyrics | 15 years ago |

I think the first verse is: "Have you ever wondered If it smarts when your heart is ignored" Also the part: "I even did the research Went to work, learned to flirt Wore a skirt and faced dirt And, ah, still you didn't notice" I think theres an extra line: "I even did the research Went to work, learned to flirt Wore a skirt and faced dirt And it hurt still you didn't notice" |

| The Notwist – Sleep Lyrics | 16 years ago |

"I would stay for the wrong reasons... and I put my arms around you to hold you tight." So it sounds like he's slept with someone but is staying with this person for the wrong reasons. Then he says "Someone has [to have] sleep for me or is it all just letters and poems" I feel like I can relate to this song because my ex and I would lie in bed and be happy just sleeping or lieing. It sounds like he dwells on the content feeling when you're in love which can be related to relaxation/sleep. So he asks, someone has to have sleep for me (love or provide me that feeling) or is it all just paper and words but nothing there. |

| Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Hysteric Lyrics | 16 years ago |

I felt at first it was more than a love connection but I'm still not certain. No longer, no longer What you ask (Something that is happening that you didn't ask for) Strange steps Heels turn black (walking through something strange -- heels turn black like walking through woods, coals, back into nature) The cinders, the cinders They light the path (Something burning like torches or a fire or it could even be a love that died and became ash being relight or fires lighting the new path) And these strange steps Take us back, take us back (Taking these strange steps into the woods or on coal take the two people back to a past happiness or honorary witnessing) Flow sweetly, hang heavy You suddenly complete me You suddenly complete me (The feeling flows sweetly and hangs heavy) This song could be about lovers coming together in nature with a fire/ashes lit somewhere lighting their path back to romance. Other interpretation is the firewalking seen as a hard task ahead of you to get over. Some people have used firewalking as a means to assume power over their lives, giving the feeling of being complete. Either one creating a feeling of hysteria creating a release of strong emotions. |

| Metric – White Gold Lyrics | 16 years ago |

This song is definitely social commentary, the question is how to read it. Here's my interpretation, but I could be viewing this differently. The lyrics: Piss poor, riding high, sunbathing fireside We're here for the porn or the sirloin Get your T-bone, let your backbone slide Tunnel and sky collide Lose friends to the airwaves and the airlines Doesn't this mean that the poor are riding on the idea of commercialism and hollywood? For example, "Get Rich or Die Trying." Here for the sex and meat- flesh. Losing friends to the airwaves and the airlines -- to commercialism. Then the next lyric: "I want to make it right Some future in my eyes, bright Hush don't explain When you water down my name I'll be up too late Call me when you get Better at your game You haven't beat me yet Though my vision is strained" In other words, the person doesn't want the future to be completely consumed by commercialism, hoping for a brighter future and resisting to be consumed by commercialism her/himself. "The waitress, the actress Has got the skin and the bones With the hairbrush and an air brush She'd be white gold She asked the piss poor 'Why are you looking for that party in the sky It's just a movie about a movie, too old to die'" The actress - the one in hollywood is just telling "the piss poor" that movies and hollywood is not all its cracked up to be. Its just hairbrush/airbrush, fake gold? Also the poor could be a social comment on those coming up from a poor background into the entertainment industry. See that those in the party of the sky are those that have "got the skin and the bones, with the hairbrush and an air brush - white gold?" just another thought on what this song could mean. |
