I think he's coming from the perspective of God and wants to convince a girl that she doesn't need to depend on anyone but Him because he's "everything you'll need him to be." and God is always there to comfort you and you're never alone with him. He's trying to tell her to stop hiding from her because He sees all. He's always there for her and doesn't want her to fall back into her habits, even though he knows she will without his immediate help. |

I think they're trying to get the point across that yes, God will always be there for you. He will be there for you through it all and will guarantee you anything you need. Nothing is impossible with God's graces and he's the only one you're guaranteed. |

Actual reason for him writing this song was that the record label was going to cut him and gave him one hour to write a hit. He was mad but didn't really care so he ranted on the jerks in the record company and how he's not gonna change for them, they came in after the hour was up and that's when he got the chorus, "So open the door, I'm a loser, baby, so why don't you kill me?" and killing him as in cutting the label. |

I also think that "What you got under your shirt." means a gun, not fat. It makes much more sense. The song came out shortly after the Virginia Tech shooting, I believe, so it could be in reference to that. |
