| Foo Fighters – I Should Have Known Lyrics | 14 years ago |

Thank you so much for these! Probably the most emotional song of the new album, with uncharacteristically poignant lyrics from Dave. And while I don't think the entire song has to do with Kurt, you can't deny it has traces of Dave's relationship with him. And no, I am not one of the people that thinks that everything Dave has written is about Kurt. It is only because Krist plays bass on this track, and Butch Vig produced the record (the producer of "Nevermind"). Honestly, I think the song is just about destructive relationships, that you know will lead to heartache, but can't seem to get out of because you are already in too deep. The feeling of looking back at a connection with someone or something, and never being able to forgive them for hurting you that way, even though you should have known the eventual outcome because of obvious signs, even though you refuse to see them. Just my thoughts on it. Amazing song, off of an amazing album :) |

| The Strokes – Under Cover of Darkness Lyrics | 14 years ago |

I love this song! I think it is Julian and the rest of the band venting their frustrations. Side projects from the band members, making it hard to get back together ("Don't go that way"). Ridiculously high standards from fans and critics ("Slip back out of whack at your best/It's a nightmare"). And the fact that it has been a decade, and people are still comparing every thing they do to "Is This It?" ("I've been all around this town/Everybody's singing the same song for ten years"). There is also the fact that while they piss each other off, they love each other and making music together and are willing to do what they have to, to get back together ("I’ll wait for you/Will you wait for me too?")("So long my friend and adversary"). The biggest statement from the song is that, bottom line, they are The Strokes, so they will do whatever the hell they want to ("We got the right to live for us to use it/You got everything but you can just choose it/I won't just be a puppet on a string") - I think that the video kind of represents my thoughts. The title still doesn't make sense to me. Let me know what you think of my interpretation, and your thoughts on the title. |

| Radiohead – Videotape Lyrics | 14 years ago |

Absolutely gorgeous song. For me, it ties with "Fake Plastic Trees" as Thom's best ballad. And that is saying a lot because I never thought that Radiohead would top that song's beauty. As for my interpretation, I believe that this song is about both suicidal thoughts and unrequited love. "When I'm at the pearly gates This'll be on my videotape" The beginning is about his thoughts of seeing his life flash before his eyes in memories right before death. "Mephistopheles is just beneath And he's reaching up to grab me" The next part is about the feeling he gets when he thinks about his love, and how he would rather be dead. Mephistopheles is the name given to the demon or devil from Faust, and explains that is what is guiding him to his death. "This is one for the good days And I have it all here in Red, blue, green" Next, he is feeling that this is the best day he has had in a while, because of how he knows that pain is about to end, and how he uses his memories of good days past to comfort him in his time of death. "You are my centre when I spin away Out of control on videotape" Next, he knows that while the woman he loves is the reason he is in this position in the first place, he knows that he would have rather have known her and loved her, than never meeting her at all. Even though it is what is leading to his death. "This is my way of saying goodbye Because I can't do it fact to face So I'm talking to you before No matter what happens now I won't be afraid Because I know Today has been the most perfect day I have ever seen" Finally, he is saying goodbye to her, and is using a videotape, because he would never hurt her like that in person. He is also saying that he wants his goodbyes to be to her, and is consoling her and making her know that it isn't her fault and to not feel guilt. He wants to make sure that she knows that this is his choice, and that he feels no fear about it, because he was able to know her and be with her for moments in his life. And that is what makes it such a perfect day, even though the pain is making forcing him to take his own life. This is just how I feel, having gone through some of the pain expressed in this song. Very easy to relate to for anyone how has experienced unrequited love. |

| Imogen Heap – Hide and Seek Lyrics | 15 years ago |

I've read through many of the interpretations of this song, and I think that all of them are valid in their own right. But to me, this song has very ambiguous lyrics. Immi is a fantastic lyricist leaving this song open to multiple interpretations. Obviously she had something in mind when she put this down on the paper, but it was just open enough to impact so many people in so many different ways. For many, this song was first heard on The O.C. I first heard it on The Last Kiss. And it worked in both very well because it was perfect for the situations that it was used. I think that is why I find this song to be such a treasure. It is able to transform itself into anything you need it to be when you need it in your life. Also, because it is just vocals, it seems that an angel is whispering comfort into your ears. When I listen to this, it feels like Immi is singing to just me. And as for me, I hear this song as being about coming out of a relationship, dealing with the break up, the depression, and not being able to deal with living without the person that you used to love. The Hide and Seek to me is how sometimes it feels like their presence is still with you even though they are gone. |

| Beck – Lost Cause Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| Obviously, this is a break-up song. But the difference is that Beck doesn't use this song to whine or complain. Like any other great folk singer/songwriter, he uses his music to tell a story and paint a picture. This song is a true masterpiece. One of the best songs, on one of the best albums of the last decade. | |
