I get everyone referencing this to a love relationship however i have a slightly different take I feel like this song is about taking your life in your own hands and breaking free from people tearing at you and trying to hold you down I particularly think of family relationships from my own situation but also all the 'haters' and when you do succeed these same people try to come and buddy up with you and finally 'love you' (implies implicit that this person in the song is going to go forward and 'make it) and when those people love you - theyll be 'loving in his shadow' - the shadow of the ones who were truly there - their love isn't 'light' its in darkness (Ie house of living light where evil goes to die - their love/relationship is dead and disconnected from you and cant affect you ) Those people aren't yours to live for anymore I feel God in this in the way that God and his Spirit is the house of living light and once you come into it the dark flees - it becomes dead and buried and you bury it - it cant touch you WHen they love me its in Gods shadow and when they 'love' God its in your shadow (of what theyve done and wont repent from) |
