This amazing, underrated masterpiece is on of the best interpretations of what spanish colonizers in central, and specially south america, must have felt. They went onto a mysterious, unknown ocean, looking for new hope thinking that the world, a flat piece of rock, ended there somewhere in a massive waterfall. The miseries and suffering they lived in those ships, only to find this new world, where their true agony will just begin. Because not everybody knows of the hell that went loose on earth those days. Slaughter, epidemics, starvating, cannibalism, sadism, betrayal, slavery, entire cultures being wiped out of the earth. One of the worst holocaust in history, terrible for both sides. Realizing that the paradise they expected to find was actually hell on earth, and the lost of humanity within, reflects on that last agonic beg "GOD HELP".
Anyone who wants to understand more of this part of history should read "Misteriosa Buenos Aires" (Misterious Buenos Aires) "a 1950 book of literary fiction by Manuel Mujica Laínez, containing no fewer that 42 short stories illustrating life in Buenos Aires from the time of its mythical First Foundation, in 1536, to 1904." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Misteriosa_Buenos_Aires |

I agree with votrebeaureve, not in the vampirish, but in the childish aspect. And not only child, but maybe even baby (an uncut tooth means it havent even grown yet). "protected by the naked eye""bite my lips""fair skin freckles"...This is terribly, terribly dark. Maybe it was inspired on some real case on the news... |

I think this is a really dark song. This is the sensation I get: An almost OD'ing girl at a bar or something meets this guy. In her alucination she think he is there to protect her from everyone else, but I guess that guy is not as good as she expects... |

This is one of the greatest songs ever. So many good artist tried to cover it but none has hit it. I dont think this song have a literal meaning. Its a surreal song about intense feelings. Its possible that it means something for its creator, but unless he explains it, its really difficult that someone gets it. |

Ok this is what i feel about this song. There are two different stories here.
One one side we have this simple guy, working on the night shift of a security company, monitorizing and doing control walks on some kind of building. He is really tired of this job (fisical and mentally) and he dreams about being out.
On the other side there is this great vocalist girl, getting ready for going out on a show. She just dreams about being on stage and is doing some warm ups.
The climax of the song belongs to both of them. They reach the same feelings by accomplishing such different dreams in such different situations and I think this is what the song is all about. There is no recipe or guide to reach determined feelings, and even the most opposite people are the same sometimes... |
