| I agree. I love that I can feel the frustration that he projects throughout. | |

This song always makes me feel hollow, but in the best way. To me this song is about confusion on the way to self (re)discovery. Even the title "Mirror of the Sky" implies this. When he looks to a higher being for answers (i.e. the sky) his question is just reflected back down to him. For me, the best line by far is "I knew all along The silence in the song Was the map to take me home" Meaning that if there is an answer at all, you have to feel it rather than just know it. |

I like to think that she actually says "Oh there's nothing wrong with them that a thousand books (instead of bucks) can't fix, That a thousand arms can't hold down." Not only controlling someone's actions physically, but also trying to harness someone's thoughts through imposing beliefs through literature/doctrines. (dare I say indoctrination?) I think the book idea ties in nicely with the Hans Christian Andersen allusion as well... |

this song means something different to me every time I listen to it. My favorite interpretation could come off as trite, but if I cared I wouldn't post this. I mostly like to think of it as someone who has potential but is completely repressed. A waterfall waiting inside a well. A wrecking ball before the building fell. Someone who isn't very extreme (not pious nor a fiend), but rather "in between." Someone who has internalized being alone and repressed to the point of acceptance, yet with frustration. "And in the darkness I taught myself to hate, oh where were you?" |
