I think Laura Marlingis the Lover of the Light. From her song 'Shine' - "I need shine, I need shine, I need shine Step away from my light, I need shine." Presumably written during the tumultuous early days of their relationship, "But I will be yours, if you'll be mine"? |

I think Xasper is spot on, and those were the same examples that came to my mind that it's a song about the difficult choice of abortion. It is beautifully written and without condemnation - simply the reassurance that while it's her choice, she 'will not be alone in this'. And while they "will hold your hand" - they "cannot move the mountains for you", in other words, they cannot make the choice for her. Wow!! |

nsteinme: Yep, "Peter Killed the Dragon" is a song off Josh's 2007 EP: "Live at the Record Exchange" and that same line references doubt about God on both songs. Delia was the name of Billy's wife; while Louis Collins is from another folk song's murder victim - where the women all 'dress in red'. Ritter loves finding parallels - check out his references to Casey at the Bat & Casey Jones in "To the Dogs or Whomever". "Louis Collins" and "Stack O'Lee" were both recorded (and I believe written) by Mississippi John Hurt (who coincidentally recorded a "Best of" album at Ritter's alma mater, Oberln College - but about a decade before Ritter's birth). |

No - it's an original by Josh; but "Daddy's L'il Pumpkin" on the EP is a John Prine cover. Note the classic lines from Bandits ". . . all that love, all those mistakes and what else can a poor man make" - are also in "Idaho". |
