old news but, i think this song is just as against the "carpe diem" attitude as it is the "sit around and mope pining for the past or the way things could have been" mentality. take the last three lines: Breathe every breath like it wasn't a countdown. i think carpe diem encourages you to live everyday as if it were your last or a countdown (which he is saying not to do) this line also quit moping and wondering when your misery will end and just fucking breath and relax. Can't change a mind lost to the hours held so dear, can't force your way out of a dream purchased with fear. both of these same deal. what's done is done so quit moping, but don't force your future to be molded by a shitty incident. more like this song is about just getting over the idea of having a bigger plan and just taking things as they come. "Fuck not lest ye be fucked" - maybe the bible thing, but the way he says it it seems like he's saying you gotta do the fucking first. great song, great band, wish i had gotten into them earlier. |
