In the beginning of the song, the lyrics are: Today I'm dirty I want to be pretty Tomorrow I know I'm just dirt Which means that the person feels as though they're worthless today, and they know that they'll be just as worthless tomorrow, but there is still some hope for the future. They're still holding on to something (hence the lyrics "I want" to be pretty - they're in present tense). Then later in the song, they change to: Yesterday I was dirty Wanted to be pretty I know now that I'm forever dirt This means the person believes that in this society they'll ALWAYS be worthless at this point, and that there is not an ounce of hope left (hence the lyrics "wanted" to be pretty - they're in past tense). So, after this realization, they decide that "when we're dead, they'll know just who we are"; coming to the conclusion that death is their only option to be "pretty". To be "somebody". And the last paragraph pretty much speaks for itself. The media uses these kinds of things to make money. They don't care about the reason people do these things, and they'll never care to understand. |

I think that he'd "tear out his eyes" for her not because he's madly infatuated with her, but because he wants to give this cold-hearted woman a sense of sight so that she can see all of the pain she brings upon others. Not to say that he never was infatuated with her. I think that this was the case in the beginning, then she tore his heart out, and now he wants her to see and understand what she's done. Lastly, though knowing that "nothing's lost", when she leaves him, he knows that he will still grieve because of all the pain he feels -- while she's able to leave KNOWING that nothing is lost because it all meant nothing to her, and soon doing the same thing to someone else. |

Fuck off with the whole "It's offensive to women" shit. People will tell you all sorts of lies and then turn their back on you. All he's saying is that not only is he not going to trust the hoe that happens to think she's a good liar, but he's also going to be an even better liar than she is. He's saying that she's cheating on him, but he's already one step ahead of her. I don't see anything wrong with that. It's the only way to be. Fight fire with fire if you don't want to end up being a pathetic fool. |
