| Seeker Lover Keeper – On My Own Lyrics | 11 years ago |
|
In my opninion this song seems to be about a very personal realisation and acceptance of her sexuality? She's known the clues ("sights"/ "sounds") for a long time but never really confronted them until this relationship with a guy has come to an end...she noticed how little the end of the relationship actually effected her and she's trying to distance herself from him as much as possible to work out this realisation that she has "buried underground for years" I think its about sometimes accepting that you need to be alone to work your own shit out, that at the end of the day no one else can tell you who or what you are... lolol then again i could be completely wrong! (I know Sally Seltman is married to a guy so thats the onlything that confuses this interpretation...although Holly Throsby is gay...but I can't find online who wrote which songs!) Anyway, I love this song :D |

These are the lyrics I submitted, for some reason songmeanings changed them to "Help Me Loose My Mind"'s instead..they didn't accept the edit either so... Here you won't find treason heart Help Quiet, he sleeps with anything but love Help Help We need him to stay between us And do you really understand? Help Can you help Help Help Perfectly aligned features are Evidence he couldn't stay between us Help Help Black paint on a white canvas arm Imprints of the words you chose to say Help Can you help Darling, can you help Darling, can you, can you Help Help Help Darling can you help Can you (not certain about the first line?) |

| Kings of Leon – Comeback Story Lyrics | 12 years ago |

They way I interpret the chorus is a relationship in which one person is clearly more attatched... "I walked a mile in your shoes" -- he tried persevering, giving the benefit of the doubt and getting to know her ("Bent on believing everything is alright")...but getting to know her only made him feel more distant and he feels guilty for giving her hope? He's got her "shoes"-- all her trust and affection that he earnt but doesn't really want or deserve "The brighter the lights they're burning me out" I kinda think he finds it hard to be in love, "Everyone says it's a lovely sound", but the harder someone loves him the more he feels burnt out by it, I can relate to that.. I'm not sure...maybe I'm reading too much into it hah..but that's how I like to hear it 'nyway Great song! |

| Bright Eyes – Poison Oak Lyrics | 12 years ago |

Perhaps someone already said it but I can't help thinking the yellow bird is a reference to the canaries they used to use in mining, when the canary died they'd know soemthing was wrong with the oxygen supply and everyone would clear out... If it's about his cousin commiting suicide perhaps it kinda saved him from taking that way out...so the bird died, but it saved his own life in a way "end of paralysis" I can relate to that feeling anyway, I'd considered suicide myself til I had a friends sister do it; and in a way she saved me cause I saw the saddness and self blame and helplessness she left behind in my friend and his family "My clothes are soaking wet from your brother's tears"... I'd never never never be able to do that now..she was kinda like my yellow bird..so thats the way I like to see it anyway Also "And you wrote bad checks just to fill your arm" makes me think of a heroin addict? |

| The Middle East – Land Of The Bloody Unknown Lyrics | 13 years ago |

I think there's a lot to do with constellations in this song as suggested by Zefram.. I think maybe it has to do with being away from your own country.. to a place where the stars are unfamiliar to you; when he comes back to Australia the Southern Cross always points him home... Also before Australia was discovered and settled the area was known as Terra Australis Incognita–an "unknown land of the South" Also on a side note, "black dog" is always used to describe depression --thats all I can piece together, I'd really like to have a better picture of this song! |

| Laura Marling – Tap At My Window Lyrics | 13 years ago |
|
"Until you calm me down I race around this town Trying to find, oh, an emotion you cannot deny" kinda makes me think that she she still hasnt felt an absolute love that she "cannot deny" and so is unsure about who she should be with.. She's got morals and doesn't want to string him along but still it is nice to be loved and she doesnt want to be left alone "Maybe I'll write him a story /And maybe I'll fall asleep in his arms" I dunno about anyone else but i hear the words "cut me down" not calm... I think she's afraid that this detatchment will eventually cause spite in the men in her life and she will be left alone.. I hear "Maybe i'll wake up lonely and FALLING away again" either way, lovely song.. I can relate to it a lot, I like the way Laura Marling thinks, she knows people well i think, she's a smart cookie :) |

| The Middle East – Ninth Avenue Reverie Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
I think he's singing about a woman who is ill and knows she will die soon, the lines "You said you were quitting after your next pack" indicate she probably has cancer (also not the first time Middle East has sung about cancer) ..the relationship seems quite pressed i think, he drinks a lot and could never really tell her how he felt whereas she seems to be able to tell him everything "And I'd give to you in death what I could not in life " Last verse is what gets me every time, this is a very powerful song... Middle east writes such sad but brilliant music :') |

| Metronomy – Everything Goes My Way Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
uhhh, woops? These are lyrics to a completely different song haha METRONOMY's "Everything goes my way"'s lyics: "When I take you back, I thought you'd only up and run But you are still here, I know And when I take you back, I thought you'd only up and run But you are still here, you are still here And now everything goes my way And now everything goes my way, it feels so good to have you back my love I'm in love again... Love, I'm in love again... Why give it all on you, you shot a hole in my heart straight through When you pushed me aside, three weeks I cried But now you got me back, You know I'll never up and run Yeah I stay in here, I stay right here And now everything goes my way And now everything goes my way, it feels so good to have you back my love I'm in love again... Love, I'm in love again... Love, I'm in love again... Love, I'm in love again... " |

| Angus and Julia Stone – Just A Boy Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
Live at The Basement, I saw it on ABC2, Angus introduced the song: "So we've been playing a few festivals here and there, and um, at one I met this really cool girl, she made me feel pretty good. She made me feel like a boy... so this is called Just A Boy" Love this song :) beautiful music, really simple but amazing lyrics, this is the song that made me fall in love with A&J. Not just their music either; they're shy, it's cute ^_^ they both seem like really genuine people to me, not caught in fame... (watch their Aria acceptance speech, hehe) |

| MGMT – Time to Pretend Lyrics | 16 years ago |

The fourth verse is what gets me in this song, what caught my attention the very first time i heard it. It's so easy to relate to and I haven't even left home yet. It's about leaving the safety of home "living fast", having fun... but coming to realise you're gonna miss that love and safety... It's a sad song really. "I'll miss my sister, miss my father, miss my dog and my home"..that i can relate to, I think that's why it's such a good song. I know there are already too many opinions posted on this song but i feel better if i have my say too after listening to this song a bazillion times xD |

| Lisa Hannigan – Ocean and a Rock Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
Love this song, like it more and more every time I listen.. From looking at the lyrics I guess it has a fairly clear meaning. She sings about someone she's fallen in love with. And even when he isn't there (an ocean and a rock away) she feels him in everything she does... well that's how I'd like to think of it :) A very sweet song. |

| Pearl Jam – Daughter Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
I went to the Backspacer concert last night(20/11/09)in Melbourne. When Eddie was introducing "Daughter" he said It was about daughters who prefer fathers to mothers.. Although reading the rest of the comments and finally looking at the lyrics properly, I quite like the dyslexia idea.. abusive mother. Anyway, a great song |
