Book Of Fears – The Water Lets You In Lyrics 5 years ago
This is a song about broken dreams, things wanted fro life that are never realized, and a feeling of loneliness from knowing that some things we want will never be; that relationship that is always strained at best, that one that isn't there anymore. It's about growing older without seeing what you'd always hoped for, and yet still trying to reach those dreams, while feeling you never will.

Heart – Alone Lyrics 14 years ago
The chorus isn't "how do I get you alone" - it's "how do I get TO alone". She's singing, clearly, about how she was ok being alone before she met him, but now the prospect is utterly incomprehensible. How can she get to that place again? Plus, she's afraid to be there, because she now knows how lonely she was before. See this same error all over the web. Have the song, and SURE about this. Really needs correction. The way it is, you lose the depth of her despair.

Oh, one addition, the Serengeti isn't a river. It's a plain.

Toto – Africa Lyrics 15 years ago
It's definitely Olympus, not a leopress. And first, "Hurry, boy, it's waiting there for you", then later, "Hurry, boy, she's waiting there for you".

Clearly, he's in Africa, waiting for his love to arrive, and loving the country, and missing her. She's coming to try and talk him into leaving, and he doesn't want to go, can't face going, because he's so in love with the wild land. As for "frightened of this thing that I've become", that's easy. He's feeling so much a part of the wild lands around him that he fears he can't go, but wants to do what makes the lover happy. He can't be parted from her, or from the land.

How anyone sees anything racist, or slave-related in this, is beyond me. There is nothing of the sort there. Just a man torn between the love of a woman, and the love of a place. Beautiful song. One of their best.

Golden Earring – Twilight Zone Lyrics 16 years ago
Way too much analysis, people. Look at the title of the song - Twilight Zone. As in the show. The lyrics are full of references to the show. The spoken beginning, not included above, for starters:

"Somewhere in a lonely hotel room there's a guy starting to realize that eternal fate has turned its back on him. It's 2am..." - Very common in the show for someone to be alone, and realize that things are all messed up.

"It's two a.m., the fear has gone; I'm sittin' here waitin', the gun still warm; Maybe my connection is tired of takin' chances" - Here the person is in a situation that suddenly isn't going as planned; standard fare for the TZ.

"Yeah there's a storm on the loose, sirens in my head; I'm wrapped up in silence, all circuits are dead;
I cannot decode, my whole life spins into a frenzy" - Again, standard fare; weird weather, person thinking they are losing their mind, and can't figure out what's happening.

As for the chorus, it's not supposed to be logical; it is, after all, the Twilight Zone. Even the clone reference is clearly from the show. Remember, if you will, the doppelganger episode.

"I'm falling down a spiral, destination unknown..." - Anyone who ever saw the original can see this is a clear reference to the opening titles.

All the rest just fits the pattern. Not one particular thing, but the general idea of a well laid plan going mad, and things not being as they should be. Betrayal by fate. Betrayal by those you thought you could trust. Wonderfully confusing and senseless as a whole, a great tribute to a truly great program.
