I really don't think this has any ideas on christianity and how it is "shit". Well I think it is more of just a story of spirituality and how it's hard to stay on the right path. Obviously it's a satanic ritual. Baphomet is usually a satan or satan-like demon. The Baphomet Sigil is the symbol of satanism. I think this is the turning point in the CD where the character ventures down a darker road, thus the musical tone changes to a very scary tone. It's very different from the rest of the CD. So maybe if this is a story I think it is advocating everything spiritual besides Satan. |

I don't think it has anything with the desecration of religion. I believe it is more of a concept album in it doesn't tell a story but it does give a united theme of like spirituality. Like not necessarily religion but spirit. Omar and Cedric are for sure filled with spirit. I think they are just trying to construe a good feeling, you know? I mean listening to Amputechture is one of those feelings you can only get from being on an amazing trip to exotic places and just thinking about you and yourself and your growth. |

Personally,this song is one of my favorite Mastodon songs maybe even one of my favorite songs of all time. Well the name is a tribute to Joseph Merrick the elephant man. I love how the solo sounds so 70's it is amazing. Mastodon evolved a lot from Remissions (not saying it was a bad record). Their sound has developed into something definitely unique. Now onto the story, I think this is when the main character fails his task ("Wasn't able") but has come to live with the consequences, and he sees that coming home to his family is the only thing left for him ("I'll have you know, girl, I'm on my way back"). This song basically I think gives the listener their own ending because it is hard to decipher the lyrics (thus no lyrics in the lyric book). Mastodon is truly something amazing they have turned from complex sludge metal into something totally of it's own. |
