Lespaulsmith, we have a bit of an ironic situation here. You say that I need to read up on marijuana because it's a depressive? No, it's not like alcohol and it is not a depressant. It has some similar depressive and disinhibiting physiological effects, but is not categorized as a depressant. It is most similar to a hallucinogen. I believe you'd find that kind of information on the most basic of fact sheets. Can you really promise that it's not about smoking bud, as you previously claimed? What exactly is an incessant drug addict? I'm intrigued. In regards to your interpretation of the song being correct purely due to it being a personal opinion, I wholeheartedly agree. However, a few of your words seem to contradict that fact. "Um, to the stoners above, 'keeping your head in the clouds' is an old phrase related to daydreaming, not smoking weed.. :/ I sincerely doubt they intended any of this to be drug related lol." "The lyrics use analogies referring to Houdini/magic acts -- fact." Your interpretation of the song is not fact, Yumi. Nor is mine. You would probably like Empire of the Sun. Please show me these 'facts' which show that the only perspective Elly could have been coming from was one of 'magic' and I'll happily concede. Gosh, to me this song is so blatantly political (specifically the Iraq war). Such an amazing song, I love the middle-eastern themed backing music. Matthew is an absolute genius. "Build a fortress and shield your beliefs" and "Until you guzzle and squander what's left" (oil anyone??) probably explain the political motivations behind the song better than any other lines. |
