The Wooden Sky – Oslo Lyrics 15 years ago
Fantastic song. I saw them live in Kingston (sadly they did not play this song - no female singer) and after the concert they stayed around to play their songs acoustically. It was probably one of the coolest moments at a concert I have been too.

Anyway, on to the song meaning. I think its about being homeless and about regretting ones choices, that led the singer to become homeless. It seems to me that the person had family/friends and then left them to go do something. He is to ashamed to go back to them though, because he won't admit his failure. Another idea I had was that he did go home after being homeless but feels awkward being there because well..."it just dont feel the same" so then he leaves again to go be homeless.

I think the part about Oslo is about his dream to go somewhere with his life. Young people often travel after university/college and maybe he wishes he could travel there. Be free and start over.

When the singer talks about crossing the river Jordan that could mean about going home - The Jordan River is the border to Israel the traditional homeland of the Jews...So cross into Israel aka go home.

Murder by Death – King of the Gutters, Prince of the Dogs Lyrics 15 years ago
This whole album is such a diversion from previous ones. It took me awhile to finally like it but after listening to it on repeat I have decided I like it. This song especially. The beat is wicked.

But on to what I think the song means:

I feel like there are two options to the meaning. the first is clearly that the guy is literally the "king of the gutters" aka homeless. he has grown up on the street and he is old now with grey hair and as it is the only home he has known he feel that the gutters are his kingdom. its basically about the life of a homeless person - handouts, being thrown out, stoned, etc.

The other option is about a criminal. he starts out as a petty criminal taking handouts and doing odd jobs. He drinks to deal with what he has to do for a living. As he gets older he becomes the head person in his crime organization. He becomes the 'king of the gutters' aka the underworld and 'prince of the dogs' aka the criminals under him. After all dogs obey their master right? He is essentially 'untouchable' which is an old mob name for people that are made men and are essentially above the law.

Anyway just two thoughts that are probably wrong but you never know.

Bob Dylan – All Along the Watchtower Lyrics 16 years ago
I am to lazy to read all of the posts so, sorry if I repeat what somebody has already written. I have no idea what it is about but I do no that if you look at it from a literary sense it is a very intriguing song. The song starts at the end of the story and ends at the beginning. It is basically a cyclical song as when it ends the story is actually beginning.

This song is noted as a milestone in Dylan's song writing as it is different from his previous work. It does not follow a linear chronology as his previous work had done. You can see this in some other songs on this album as well.

Joe Pug – Hymn #101 Lyrics 16 years ago
This song is awesome and I can't believe know one has commented on it. If you like Bob Dylan...this is someone for you. I think that Joe's stuff is better though. Just more appropriate to our times, as Dylan is a bit outdated in some songs.

Anyway I think the song is just about life and life's experiences. Getting through various challenges and overcoming differences between people etc. and getting through it at least thats what the 1st half of the song is about (up to the 3rd last verse). Its basically about life up until the point of meeting the person that you love and the last 3 versus are just about getting to know one another and becoming familiar with the other persons habits. the last line(s) of the song he is basically saying that despite all their differences underneath his skin, his different moods, facades, and actions his heart will always love her. He truly loves her despite their differences.

Anyway I could go more in depth and analyze each paragraph and what they mean to me but that would just take me away from listening to this awesome song.
