To me, Alex sounds agonised in this song, matching perfectly to the lyrics. "After all thats transpired, thats taken place, after all the stab wounds and just before my death." The person has gone through hell and is finally ready to finish, until his spirits are lifted up from his dying past "to shine from within". But again, he sabotages himself to the breaking point again until the one he learns to love comes to rescue him from his demise. It sounds a little like self-harm in my opinion, as though he has to punish himself for what he feels he has failed at. Although he loves this person, he seems to have a difficult time in showing them and may be confused how to demonstrate affection or appreciation for another being. Regardless, he is certain they are meant for eachother and nothing can come between them. "Nothing can save me from myself. You keep me safe resurrecting my love. An angel like you can never fall, heaven I found right in my arms". These lyrics show that he is able to see beauty in life, in the form of this person, and although he is sure he cant be saved from his own self, she can keep him safe for now. To him, she is perfect, and has given him a haven to rest. "I found love in you, I find truth in you, I see light in you and it horrifies me." This sounds like he realises there is an amazing person in his life that he wants to live for, but this terrifies him because he is so used to self-destruction and hasnt experienced happiness before, thus being a frightening aspect. An amazing song, with alot of feeling. |

| Televators is a song dedicated to Cedrics best friend, who commited suicide by ingesting copius amounts of drugs then leaping to his death from a tall building. I believe the imagery of the lyrics is based on the graphic appearance of his death.. "three half eaten corneas who hit the aureole" (corneas being a part of the eye and aureole being a radiant light surrounding ones head). A capillary hint of red is referring to the blood from his veins that was spilt on the sidewalk. Auto-da-fe was a term originally used for the punishment or execution of heretics or witches who disobeyed religious practices or were considered evil. Perhaps this was Cedrics way of describing his friends thoughts about himself, hence leading to the suicide. "One day this chalk outline will circle this city" might be a hint that if depression isnt dealt with, more deaths will occur from suicide. This song is very tragic and extremely moving. | |
