Daft Punk – Face to Face Lyrics 15 years ago
I think now a days this song can be applied almost perfectly to the whole social-networking/facebook fad (hopefully it's just a fad). As lame is it sounds, I know so many people, guys and girls, that are interested in someone but see something on their myspace/twitter/facebook and are instantly turned off by them. I think the lyric: "All because I hoped that you'd be someone different" perfectly describes that.

"There's not much I know about you, fear will always make you blind" is a great lyric as well I think Daft Punk is trying to tell us that we need to stop judging people over the internet because "it's amazing what you'll find face to face"...No matter how good an online relationship/friendship can be it'll never be as good as a relationship that is face to face or in person.

I don't know why you are trying to say the Beatles suck in this forum but, I hate to break it to you, they don't. The Beatles do drugs?? So What! So do most musicians electronic artist, rock stars, hip hop stars, pop stars, etc.

Also, relephora, I completely disagree with you 100%. Yes, the Beatles do have poetic lyrics but so does any artist that has very good lyrics because they are almost the same thing. These are amazing lyrics and I think Daft Punk's are often shadowed by their amazing live shows and electronic dance music because no one really listens to the "deeper" meaning into a song when they are at a live show with flashing lights everywhere.

Daft Punk > Beatles? Come on, why can't we appreciate both? I'm sure they both appreciate eachother.

MGMT – Pieces of What Lyrics 16 years ago
I heard in an interview that this was the last song they wrote for 'Oracular Spectacular' and I think it has a lot to do with the fact that they are now celebrities/musicians and will never really be able to experience what we call a 'normal' life again. A lot of their lyrics have to do with the loss if innocence and how they love making music but it's a Catch 22 because becoming a successful musician means you lose a piece of what you once were.

At first, you don't realize it so you think it doesn't matter but then you realize there's no going back no matter how badly you want it. I think the city he describes as being surrounded is them being surrounded and there's no escaping what their lives have become.

The last verse, to me, is the singer saying that he isn't giving up hope and he'll do anything even as ridiculous as laying dragon's teeth (in Greek mythology are believed to, once planted, created armed soldiers). I think the line "I'm waiting for my meal" is him simply saying when is it going to change? when will I get a break?

All in all, MGMT rule they are extremely creative with their music and cleverly insightful with their lyrics and this is just my interpretation.

Animal Collective – My Girls Lyrics 16 years ago
This song goes to show how simple, honest music can be really powerful, not to mention Animal Collective is one of the most experimentally gifted bands since the new millennium.

By far, the best song on Merriweather (in my opinion) about how the singer doesn't care to get caught up in the "I need the newest technology" epidemic. He just needs to be alive (the blood I bleed), be a good person (solid soul), and now that he has a family he just wants to provide for them, which is obvious in the chorus.

Obviously I could be wrong but I think most people agree the lyrics are literal and are not meant to be a metaphor for anything but wanting to be a good person that has a family and overall just finding the pursuit of happiness and not getting caught up in all of the things that are status symbols.

MGMT – The Handshake Lyrics 16 years ago
Everyone's got their own opinion and apply the lyrics appropriate to their life so they can relate to it as much as possible. To me, I think this song is about the band signing with the record label. MGMT said in their interview once that a lot of their songs are interpreted when they should just be taken literal. This isn't a metaphor for drugs and another example of MGMT songs like this are 'Electric Feel' because it's not about the waste of energy in the world it's literally about a girls 'electric' touch.

I just shook the handshake
I just sealed the deal
I'll try not to let them
Take everything they can steal
People always told me
Don't forget your roots
I know I can feel them underneath my leather boots

MGMT is saying that they finally got a record deal after all the work you have to do to get to that point. Rock stars especially struggle with staying 'true your roots' because it's so hard when youre in the limelight. I think he's saying his roots, the person he once was, will always be with him underneath his rock n roll persona AKA his leather boots.

You toss all the mornings lost to the clouds and you watch it go
Your fair weather friends on a parachute binge get lost when the wind blows
The handshake's stuck on the tip of my tongue
It tastes like death but it looks like fun

He's talking about the handshake as kind of like a pill I think and I think this is where people get confused. He isn't saying he's taking acid or anything. I think the handshake is a metaphor for like a pill you swallow. Often times in places like insane asylums you'll get the pill (or the handshake) and put it on your tongue but not swallow it. If you do, you'll be under the drugs control or the handshakes control AKA the record companies. It tastes like death but it looks like fun is an awesome line saying the handshake looks extremely appealing but in reality its going to suck.

I was a loner
I was just waiting by myself
When you, warped temptress
Rose to bring me happiness and wealth
Black tears, black smile, black credit cards and shoes
You can call all the people you want
But it's you who's being used

I think this is MGMT telling the record companies how ignorant and unvaluable they really are. They tell bands they're interested in their 'artistic direction' and love the music that they make but the thing they really love is the money the band's they sign bring in to the company. In the end, like most bands, MGMT is probably going to leave this record company and go on to bigger and better things. The record company is just being used by MGMT so that they can get more attention and just worry about their music.

Under your black eyes, honey
Right beneath your nose
A curse on all creation
Every single thing you know
White smoke, white light, white marble on the floor
It would only take a few seconds of darkness to figure out what's in store
Little girl

You convinced yourself that you want it, but you don't know
You keep trying to wash the blood from your hands, but it won't go
We're gonna keep you on the run

We got the handshake under our tongue
We got the handshake under our tongue
We got the handshake under our tongue
We got the handshake under our tongue
We got the handshake x15

once again the "handshake under our tongue" metaphor, to me, is them saying OK we will sign with you (fingers crossed) in a way. They're signing with the record company but they know how deceitful they can be so they'll never completely trust them. They won't swallow the pill or the handshake so they hide it and spit out the pill when they record company isn't looking..just a thought
